I agree with you. My ex-husband was in several mental hospitals, and in most cases the treatment was bad. The only thing I can say for the good was that he wanted out and tried harder. When he was in the very pricey Timberlawn Mental Hospital, he was on a spa vacation and just got worse, but had himself a very good time.
There is enough information from the question to answer it...if someone has been in the situation or seen it happen to a friend or loved one. One thing the state hospitals do is give jobs. Like a mop bucket. Or laundry. That's a good thing, compared to a high-priced vacation of doing crafts and playing pool. Then there was no incentives to get back to real life.

Most of the people who work in the mental hospitals are not well paid. The people who may be good at the job get tired of fighting the system. The crummy workers get off on the power they have.
I think the emplyees in mental hosptials are worse off mentally than the poor patients.

At the point of commitment, you have basically given up all rights, to decision making from that point on. But, having said that, you are entitled to decency, and protection from harm, without knowing more about the facility of incarceration and the details it is really hard to respond to this.

That was not my experience when I was inpatient. They treated us like people, we just went to a lot of therapy and took meds and were constantly under surveilance.

are you sure you werent being problematic? sadly, some people in positions of authority will abuse their power. it is unfortunate. maybe you could speak to a lawyer. if the hospital has a past of mistreating their patients then something needs to be done legally
