Security: Virtual machines restrict the software to a contained environment. Malware, crashes and other disasters are limited to just the one instance of the VM.

Cost & Flexibility: It's cheaper and easier to run several systems on one piece of hardware, than to run each on its own hardware.

Emulation: Virtual Machines are better device emulators than any application emulators, because for all intents and purposes, they're running that environment.

Virtual machine is illusion of underlying h/w parts.
by using this one perform any nasty things or install different Os's such as XP and Linux use it just as folders. viz one can directly switch between the two OS's,one can test his/her s/w's or apps etc.EX:VMware

they make things look 3d and virtual but things could get slow and weird sometimes

money savings
with one of our 8 processor servers running VMWare
and currently our server is hosting 4 servers.
@ 8,000 dollars per server thats 24k we just saved
electricity and less cooling requirements are also reduced.
