For a cheap reliable runaround you can't go wrong with the Fiesta. If you need a bit of space and are going to spend alot of time on the motorway then go for the Volvo. Volvo are now owned by Ford so servicing and parts costs are coming down.

Even top gear recommend fiestas,so get one of those,the newer ones have ironed out all the problems fiestas had,they are a great car,and the zetec is the best of them.

S40 far superior, more gadgets to play with, much more comfortable, better looking car too, come on its Volvo vs Ford.

Depends on if you want the extra size and running costs that goes with it. There will be a huge difference. Both are reasonably reliable though.
