I have been thinking about doing something with linguistics and am wondering at the degree of difficulty. I have taken a small amount of Arabic, and was able to pick up what I was taught pretty quickly. Is there any way to prepare for this test? Thanks!

not really, no. the DLAB's audio portion is a made up language. It only measures your ability to track and notice patterns in language. the only thing you can do is review all the rules about verb tense, conjugation and the difference between an adverb and an adjective.

It was the hardest test I have ever taken as well. It is a fictitious language however it is based on all languages I have ever heard- combined. The best thing I could recommend it that every time I started to feel overwhelmed I just said to myself relax and focus. I did very well. If you have an aptitude for languages you should too. It determines your aptitude and how difficult of a language they feel you are able to learn. I am a Korean linguist, a graduate of DLI. Don't stress it because you cannot study for it and the BEST OF LUCK:)

How much can you bench? A half of that is easy for you, might be impossibly hard for me. You don't pass or fail on an aptitude test, it just tells you, in this case, how complex languages you might be able to learn.

DLAB is the hardest test I ever took hands down.

Like above its a fictitious language complete with grammar rules you must learn during the test.

I have two advanced degrees and its still the hardest test I ever took. So I went into Army Finance!!

It's an aptitude test. You either do well or you don't. There's nothing to study. There's no way to prepare for it.

The DLAB is a made up fake language. So if your good with languages you should be fine. I did bad on it, but I'm not good with language. So it depends on the person.
