Someone put it to me recently that he believes the world to be millions of years old.
There is scientific evidence to proof it. Apparently.

I guess if you think about it it could work.

In Genisis it says "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty"
Maybe this is a few million years between these verses and this next verse.
"And God said, "Let there be light..."
This could be when God starts to 'dress' the earth with light, water, people, animals etc.

What are your thoughts or knowledge on this?

Try reading uyp on the Gap Theory of Genesis 1:1 - 1:2. The Earth can be of any age if that is true.

Any resemblance between the biblical tales and the facts of creation are purely coincidental. The earth congealed about 4.5 billion years ago out of the same dust and gas that created the sun and the other planets. For the first two billion years, the earth's atmosphere consisted of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and some methane; then photosynthetic life (which had developed during that time) converted the CO2 to the oxygen that we see today. Life emerged from the oceans onto land about 570 million years ago; the dinosaurs flourished from 245 to 67 million years ago. At that time, an asteroid struck the earth in the Caribbean, north of present-day Yucatan; the effect was to kill off the dinosaurs (by means which are not yet certain). Mankind has been around for only a few million years -- a pittance, on the geological time scale. None of this is guesswork -- there is solid science supporting everything which I have said.

There are numerous other factual errors in the bible. Probably the most obvious is the tale of the flood; scientific evidence from a dozen independent disciplines proves that the tale is fiction.

To give you a Christian Perspective of the question is the earth really Billions of years old check this site out http://www.christiananswers.net/q-aig/aig-c007.html . Personally, I believe, the data that the scienstist come up with is so inconsistent that it would be hard to say that anything scienstist say is fact and should therfore be questioned. Just take a look at history and it will show that scienstist have always thought one theroy and then later on we find new evidence to disprove that theroy. I believe that alot of science could be considered as a religion because you have to believe in something that is not always consistent with your data. So therefore, one could say, to believe the earth is billions of years old is a religion and not really fact.
