Hi,

yes...they are just Rice Crispies with chocolate on them.

The price you pay is a good price if you believe that your enjoyment of them justifies the extra cost. If you are complaining about the price, then, obviously, you are being overcharged.

The real 'rip-off' is not in the individual brands, but in the general move to cereal products that are sugared/chocolatised or honeyed to attract children towards them for the sweetness.

I am diabetic and for 42 years have needed to avoid over-sugared foods, it is becoming more and more difficult here in Spain to find non-sugared or non-chocolatised cereals.

The cereal-type breakfast has never been 'big' here in Spain, even for children. Here most people eat serrano ham and/or cheese for breakfast, including the children.

Cereal companies, realising there was an untapped potential market have aimed their advertising campaigns straight at children. On Spanish TV you will never see an advertisment for a straightforward cereal product, but only for the chocolate-type. It is quite difficult here to buy such things as Shredded Wheat, Weetabix, Shreddies, etc. all of which are easily available in the UK.

This, of course is not purely a Spanish phenomena, in the USA, when I lived there, almost all cereals had honey or sugar or chocolate on them, even sandwich bread there has added sugar and actually tastes, to me, disgustingly sweet. I was forced to buy Swedish Rye bread to get any bread without added sugar.

The cost of these cereals, in Spain, is actually LESS than the non-sugared types (at least until everyone is 'hooked') but the price of them is extremely high, and will result in children being overweight and addicted to sweet things.

So whether or not you feel overcharged by the cost of these cereals...beware!

Cheers,

BobSpain

All manufactured processed foods are a rip off. If you want something similar to CocoPops try making your own from just plain RiceCrispies and melted chocolate.

They cost about the same as other cereals so why do you think you are being ripped off? Coco Shreddies are just Shreddies with chocolate on them - are they a rip off too?!

Not so much a rip off, more of a pop off
