I wanted to find the right God, so I just started praying ten years ago for God to reveal himself to me, whoever he was. I wanted the real God - the creator of the universe - the God of love and truth!

Well, I get on my knees every night before bed and sincerely pray for God to show me himself (however he chooses to do it) I've done this for eight years! After I pray, it is my habit to sit for twenty or thirty minutes and just listen and reflect.

I pray first thing in the morning also, while I'm getting ready for work. I got nothing at all, really, except for this deep peace that I was a human and that everything was going to be alright.

I felt an increasing connection to all life and to the world. But no specifics about who or what God is!? Just a feeling that God is all around me. I am not trying to pick a religion, only trying to find the true God.

People are always trying to give me proofs for their religions: Muslims – history, name of God is miraculously everywhere.

The Christians say that Jesus’ is alive and his tomb is empty and visions of the virgin Mary, etc. But it is impossible to come to God using evidence, I have decided. It would take a lifetime to sort through all the evidences and proofs from all the different claims of religion! I’m just not that smart.

I have developed a moral sense on my own, using my own judgment and I do not believe it is right to harm anyone in any way, I love people and animals. I have a simple life and I am compelled to help people and be kind. I do not drink or smoke and I value humility. I believe in love.

When I pray, I have faith, believing that God will answer.

So, nine years ago, I read through the Bible and studied it, and was somewhat compelled, but something just wasn't jiving with my soul, so I studied the Koran- same thing! I have also read the Book of Mormon and some Watchtower literature.

. Someone challenged me to study the Bible again and pray a certain way, four years ago, so I did, but it just wasn’t the answer. He said I would go to Hell, but how am I supposed to accept something based on that? No God would ask me to do such a thing. So I continued my search.

I read the Bhagavad Gita and it stirred me, and felt more like a philosophy that I could relate to than a God-focused religion.

Funny, I feel strangely and intimately close to a God I could never define or describe!

God feels more and more like just life itself!

If you consult the dictionary, here is the definition of God that you may find:

"A being conceived as the perfect, omnipotent, omniscient originator and ruler of the universe, the principal object of faith and worship in monotheistic religions."
Most believers would agree with this definition because they share a remarkably clear and consistent view of God. Yes, there are thousands of minor quibbles about religion. Believers express those quibbles in dozens of denominations -- Presbyterians, Lutherans, Catholics, Baptists, Episcopalians, Methodists and such. But at the heart of it all, the belief in God aligns on a set of core ideas that everyone accepts.
What if you were to simply think about what it would mean if there were a perfect, omnipotent, omniscient originator and ruler of the universe? Is it possible for such a being to exist? Epicures thought about it in 300 BCE, and he came up with this:

"The gods can either take away evil from the world and will not, or, being willing to do so, cannot; or they neither can nor will, or lastly, they are both able and willing. If they have the will to remove evil and cannot, then they are not omnipotent. If they can, but will not, than they are not benevolent. If they are neither able nor willing, then they are neither omnipotent nor benevolent. Lastly, if they are both able and willing to annihilate evil, how does it exist?"
In other words, if you sit and think about who God is supposed to be, you realize that such a being is impossible. Ridiculous, in fact.

Take this quote from the Bible. In Matthew 7:7 Jesus says:

Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
The impossibility of God is visible here as well. Based on Jesus' statement, let's assume that you are a child and you are starving in Ethiopia. You pray for food. What would you expect to happen based on Jesus' statement? If God exists as an all-loving, all-knowing and all-powerful parent -- a "father in heaven" -- you would expect God to deliver food to you. In fact, the child should not have to pray. Normal parents provide food to their children without their children having to beg for it. Yet, strangely, on planet Earth today we find tens of millions of people dying of starvation every year.
Another way to approach the impossibility of God is to think about the concept of omniscience. If God is omniscient, then it means that he knows every single thing that happens in the universe, both now and infinitely into the future. Do you have free will in such a universe? Clearly not. God knows everything that will happen to you. Therefore, the instant you were created, God knows whether you are going to heaven or hell. To create someone knowing that that person will be damned to hell for eternity is the epitome of evil.

Here is another way to understand the impossibility of God. If you look at the definition of God, you can see that he is defined as the "originator and ruler of the universe". Why does the universe need an originator -- a creator? Because, according to religious logic, the universe cannot exist unless it has a creator. A believer will say, "nothing can exist unless it is created." However, that satement immediately constructs a contradiction, because we must then wonder who created God. For a believer the answer to that is simple -- "God is the one thing that does not need a creator. God is timeless and has always existed." How can it be that the everything MUST have a creator, while God must NOT? The contradiction in the definition of God is palpable.

As soon as your think about the concept of a perfect, omnipotent, omniscient being, you realize the impossibility of the concept.

God is not able to be proven. Either you believe he created the universe or he didn't. Faith is the supstance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen. (Hebrews 11:1)You just choose. I am a christian, and what your friend told you is right, that without Christ you will go to hell. He is the way the truth and the life. (John 14:6) We were created to worship God, the only way to feel "peace" is to know him fully. To do that you must proclaim his son savior of your life. You know full well you are a sinner condemed to hell, just as I was without Christ. The only person who can fill your debt to God has already done so on the cross. Realize this and repent of your sins, and proclaim Jesus your savior, and you will find God. It isn't a magic formula, just pray to God sincerly and ask Jesus to come live in your heart. You want peace, freedom from the bondage sin keeps over you, and eternal life, choose Jesus! You will be persecuted, but count that worthy for how much bigger God is than you! The hole that you feel inside you the one that no matter how many things you do or how much you try to fill it up with things (ex: boyfriend/girlfriend, drugs, sports, sex, money, success) it will never make you happy, in the end you still feel hopeless so you set out to find more to make yourself happy..... i have been down that really long road before too; that hole that you have deep inside of you in your soul was created by God, He is the only one who can fill it....and make you completely whole. He loves you! But be careful in your wait and quest for the "truth" that is in front of you the whole way, because we aren't promised another breath... I will be in prayer for you.

God is the creation of man to answer the question of "why" and "how" by early society leaders who were desperate to both explain the "how and the "why" with a list of rules that their God gave in order to have control over the masses and to unite the masses into one view.Man made God in his image because man, at the time men created God, lacked an imagination to create a God that was anything but familiar.
