Recently I've been shopping for our daughter to be.We also have a 2 year old.As I walked through the mall looking at clothes for the 2 of them I noticed that all the clothes I saw should have been for adults. As I was looking at some shirts a young girl (about 10 or so) came out of the dressing room almost in tears. Her mother asked her what was wrong and she told her "I'm fat and the boys don't like fat girls".I couldn't believe what I was hearing!!This girl looked like she was about 100lbs.How can she think she's fat?

As I looked around in other stores I found tube tops, short skirts, and high heels for kids. Shouldn't our children be able to enjoy being young and not worry so much about how they look? When I was 10 all I wanted to do was climb trees.Has our society really made our children grow up before their physically, mentally and emotionally ready?

Hoochie Babies,2$ hookers, slutts, strippers are you kidding me?!! I'm glad that the majority, who sounded off on this issue have clear priorities to protect their children with ideas like keeping all parents or gardians involved in self-esteem issues and not allowing inappropriate atire but it seems that the plan of attack itself has very complicated problems that could arise. For example you want your daughter/children to respect themselves, but you may be giving them very ugly examples of what is respectable and what isn't, & saying children shaking their little bottoms like strippers is a great example of adults unintentionaly sexualizing a childs behavior/do these girls even know what strippers are (any type of behavior can be perceived as sexual in the wrong text) as for providing your children with childlike clothing thats a great start off point. But are your children getting mixed signals from you ie; Do you smoke around your child? What do you wear? Do you curse? Do you openly judge others? etc.... All these things influence your kids as well as whats on the racks at your local mall.

you are totally right.....but what I can't figure out is why mothers ,who should know better, buy these awful clothing in the first place...you know these young girls are not footing the bill....and when they see them dress in this way..what do they think.."oh, you looks so nice..all the boys will just love you and want to be with you" or what...I just don't get the thought process behind this........

I have two teen boys...and I wondered if these girls mothers know what the boys think of their daughters....my boys and all their friends pretty much think most girls are sluts ,trashy ,drama queens or all of the above...not due to my input or example..but by the action and clothing of the girls they are in school with....I had thought they were kidding and down played all this.. until about two years ago..when a huge amount of girls started showing up at my house..not because they were asked ...but because they are interested in my sons or their friends who hang out here........all I can say is I am at a lose...what happened to dignity ,self-respect, and class..... these girls that show up here ..I say this not to be mean but to be totally truthful...they look like two dollar hookers..and act with as much class and couth.......I thought maybe the kids were attracting the bottom of the barrel until I went to football and basketball games.....and they all were acting about the same...I am totally disgusted...and I just cannot figure out how mothers can be so blind or stupid to how all this looks and is.....

don't get me wrong...I am not saying this to be mean to all these girls...but ,I wonder twenty years from now if they will wonder why they don't get any respect...will it ever occur to them that is they don't set standards and values for themselves than no one else will........ok, off my soap box....sorry...I just feel bad that things has changed so much and not for the better......

Yes our society has and we have let it happen. Shame on us but we can do something to stop it now by not purchasing these items. It is like now they are getting away from the bulimic looking models and going for the more healthy look. All because the people had a voice and wanted it heard. So is you make a loud enough noise about it we can change it. Yeah for you not wanting your daughter to dress like a hoochie.

I walk through the mall all the time and see the samething.I have a young daughter and would die to see her disrespecting herself that way. It's not just these girls parents who are responsible. We all are.Although my daughter like's those clothes, she doesn't own any of them. She thinks they look good on the manicans but not one anyone her age.

I give you props for being concerned not for just your children but other's children as well. One voice can make a difference.

I think it's terrible that we are letting our girls in society act in such a sexualized manner at such a young age, but look at who they have for role models. My daughter is not allowed to have anything that I would consider trashy IE: showing her stomach, anything too tight or too short etc. I am very strict with her about what she will and will not wear. Apparently it is working because I took her to 7-11 one day and she pointed out the trashy women on the magazines to everyone there and said that was sad they didn't respect themselves.

It's horrible, the parents should ground them not buy them all those clothes. The other day I'm in a mall walking behind this sexy looking chick in a skirt so tiny it could have been a hair band. So I'm thinking of introducing her to my big black snake, and she turns around and she's about 13.
Holy crap! That put me off sex for a week.

Unfortunately, I've seen worse. I have a friend whose niece is four and she dances like a stripper. She puts her hands against the wall and shakes her booty. That same little girl and her older sister were at a birthday party my friend had for her kids last summer and their bathing suits barely covered what needed to be covered. I think what is happening is that stores are catering to those teen aged mothers (I'm not saying all teen aged mothers are like this) who dress like that and think it's cute and funny for their little girls to dress the same. Sometimes I dress my daughter like me, but all I do is put her in the same color jeans and t-shirt as me and the same t-shirt. Personally, I want my seventeen month old to look like a seventeen MONTH old not a seventeen YEAR old.

You are so right! I wouldn't wear a lot of what is being designed for young girls. Of course, the very same designers are walking around dumbfounded as to why our 13 year old daughters are getting pregnant.
I applaud you for being concerned about what you are allowing your children to wear and only wish that more parents had the ideas that you do.

Amen!

Don't we have enough troubles with child abusers without dressing young girls up like 20 year olds? It is positively disgusting.

When I was in second and third grade, we wore sweats, jeans, sweatshirts, t-shirts, shorts etc. NOT Britanny Spears clothes. It should still be that way!

In many ways, unfortunately it has.
