Aquariums, hands-on science museaums, zoos, depending on when you are going maybe a baseball game as well.
I'm not suggesting that you use this website to order tickets or anything, but it might help you come up with suggestions.

Spend some time at Downtown Disney. There is a place called Club Libby Lu, which caters to tweeners. Call to make an appointment, and they can get all dolled up. They will love it.
Knotts Berry Farm is also a lot of fun. In addition to the theme park, there is a water park as well.
The beach! Nothing like a fun day at the beach. Huntington is my favorite. Check out some of the surf shops, and have a burger at Ruby's at the end of the pier.
Also, Santa Monica Pier is a fun place. In addition to the carousel, there is Paradise Park, which has some rides. There is also a Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, which is cool if you have ever seen the movie.
Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach is very cool for kids that age. There's also a Bubba Gump's there.
Catch the latest Disney film at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood. It's just down the street from the Chinese theater, with all the hand prints and footprints. The El Cap shows the latest Disney movie, and it's a restored theater from Hollywood's Golden Age. It truly is spectacular. You can also have a character breakfast with Chip and Dale, and go visit the Disney Soda Fountain next door. www.elcapitantheater.com. Get the VIP tickets, you'll feel really special. (Note that in California Adventure, on the wall next to the Hyperion Theater, the El Capitan Theater is on the mural there)
Griffith Observatory. Be sure to make reservations, since the observatory was recently refurbished. You will also want to try to get tickets for the planetarium show, which is quite spectacular. (For some free fun, you can hike to the top of Mt. Hollywood, about a mile from the observatory. You will get spectacular 360 degree views of LA and the San Fernando Valley... or the smog, depending on the weather. You also get a good view of the Hollywood sign. www.griffithobs.org.
That should keep you busy. Have fun!
