how would u characterize, or diagnose someone like this: (person is a high schooler)

-takes hours to do hw and stays up til like 3-4am doing hw
-often times not able to fall asleep
-always seeking attention. like for example smokes right by the teacher parking lot so that a teacher will see them and maybe help her (she has problems...)
-dad was physically, mentally, and emotionally abusive, mother did nothing. it was so bad that she moved out at 16, and lives by herself, which is not good for her bc since she moved out she seems to be more depressed
-smokes, weed, alcohol, takes random pills, and when shes drunk goes a bit too far with boys, comes to class drunk and high (attention)
-she feels hopeless bc shes talked to people about her problems and nothing has been resolved
-she had random episodes of being happy and then depressed

there are more problems, but from this, how would u characterize/diagnose her with, I havean idea butWantOpinions, pleaseno"gotodoctor"comments

Well, I am by no means an expert, but you may want to do a little research on Borderline Personality Disorder. It is possible that is the case here. An excellent resource your local library may have is the book "I Hate You--Don't Leave Me" by Jerold J. Kreisman, M.D. and Hal Straus. I have a close family member who has BPD and this book has been a Godsend. I know you do not want any "Go To Doctor" comments, but it may be the only way to help her, however, whether it is BPD or not. I have had to learn the hard way that people with serious emotional issues like those you described are often in need of far more help than those of us who are untrained in these matters can offer.

I hope this was able to help.

- You take hours to do your homework because you are easily distracted ( Dont know the word to describe)
- You suffer from Insomnia, a condition that most people have, either from thinking too much, or had a bad day.
- You are an attention seeker. People with problems tend to want people to care about them, therefore, they do things to themselves to catch people's attraction.
- Because of your childhood and moving out, you tend to think about the past, making yourself feel how much you've been through. Children who have been abused tend to keep these memories in their heads. Some recovers, and some don't.
- Has personal problems and seek drugs for help and doesn't care much about her life after all she's been through
- She's thinking that no one could help her because no one else understands her better than herself. At this point, she still has the chance to change, but she just don't want to. "Hopeless" is just a word for people who don't want to try harder with their lives. She's not a try-hard and gives up easily
- Random episodes of being happy and depressed means that girl suffers from Bipolar Disorder.

Hope that helps

This person is scarred as result of her father being abusive in many ways. She had no one to fall on and being that her own mother was not there for her she created a world of her own. I know you don't want any "go to the doctor" comments and I must say that I agree with you in a way. Being that this person is a high schooler that is in such a sad frame of mind she or he will not want to respond to a doctor. I cannot give you a diagnoses however, this person certainly needs someone to guide him or her and help them along the way. If you are a friend I suggest that you help this friend and NOT give up. Pull this person out of the dumps but I must say it will NOT be easy but it can be done! This person was let down as a child by his or her own parents and if you can't depend on your parents as a child then who can you depend on? No one except the ways of the trashy world. With no backbone and no one to turn to they decided to hide in this world where they want to gain the attention they did not ever receive and will do what they can to get it but feeling at the same time if no one cared about them then why in the hell should they care. No guidance, love or support was ever given to this child. Hopefully, someone will see the inside of this child crying for help - crying for love and take the time to actually help instead of put down and/or get frustrated with this child. I apologize but the only way I can characterize this child is as one messed up individual that is scarred from lack of love, care and support from parents that needs some guidance and direction given with love and support. Be this individuals friend - true friend - it will be hard but needs to be done.

I think this person needs to really talk to someone, it doesn't necessarily means a doctor, but definitely someone who could guide him or her to do what needs to be done. There's people out there willing to help, people who care this person needs to know that no matter how bad it is right now there is always hope in life and by getting drunk, high and having sex is just going to make it worse. Tell this person to care about themselves and get the help they need now before it's to late.
Remember life is to precious to let it go to waste.

God knows, with so many issues it could be anything from manic depression to bipolar disorder. if she has had help in the past it obviously hasnt worked, she needs to see her GP, get a referral to a psychiatrist and get a proper diagnisis, in the meantime she could try counselling, but it may not be enough, medication may be required, offer her your support if you can, its easier to get help if someone goes with you, particularly when you are young and have no family support

its not really a matter of putting the person under a category. i think the person you just described has some kinda post traumatic stress disorder and is under alot of stress which has sent her/him into depression. this isnt that uncommon alot of people i know are like this. i would say theyre procrastinators when it comes to work and homework, but the whole drugs thing isnt a matter of her personality, its just that her upbringing wasnt too pleasant and drove her to those sort of things

Diagnoses is that she is a depressed person who has been held down my society and her surroundings and she needs a fresh start! She needs someone to care about her and show her how to care about herself also.
