Check your phone book for an animal clinic or hospital and call them for some advice. Most of the time animals do fine on their own. Just be there for her to keep her calm. Talk softly to her and tell her she's doing fine. She can tell by the tone of your voice you're being supportive.

My ASPCA Cat Care book says stage 1 of labor can last 6 hours but is usually shorter. She will pant, purr or breathe heavily. Stage 2 is when she begin to bear down. Mark the time when she starts this and if a kitten isn't born in 30 minutes call a vet. A kitten enclosed in a bubble-like membrane will appear. Most kittens are born headfirst. When a kitten is born the cat will lick it to remove the membrane and stimulate breathing. Stage 3 is the expulsion of the afterbirth which she might eat and that's okay. The cat will usuall know what to do and will bite the umbilical cord. Allow her to lick the kitten immediately. She may take a reast after 1 or 2 kittens are born then resume straining. The kittens may need a little help finding a teat so if they aren't near her stomach they can be placed there. They should feed as soon as possible. If she appears tired she may need a little food or milk. Once she's done leave them to rest. Make sure her litter box is near because she may not want to leave the kittens.

In case of emergency -
If there is a kitten only partially born it may need help or it will die. If this happens wash your hands them put Vaseline on the area and grasp the kitten firmly and gently ease it out. If the cat ignores the kitten you need to remove the membrane and clear it's mouth and nose. Rub some cotton around the umbilical cord about 1" from the navel. Cut the cord on the side attached to the placenta.Don't pull on the cord though.Encourage the kitten to feed.

Good luck!

give her time to push. Make sure when the kitten comes out the mother opens the sac around the kitten. My cat gave birth to a litter of 4 a week ago and it was her first litter she was dropping them and moving around i took matters into my own hands and opened the sac from around the kittens. cut the cord. and keep them near their mother to feed. I took them to the vet today and he said that they are doing great that what i did was good and it saved them from not surviving. They are doing wonderful. Good luck.
