What do they look for? What do you need to provide? What should I expect?

I would start by calling them up and asking to schedule an appointment to show them your portfolio, or ask what their process is for reviewing artwork. Then go from there.

When you go in, be sure that you portfolio is clean, professional, and easy to look through, whether they require slides, pictures, or a disk. If examples are small enough, bring some in, however don't bring them in if they are large or cumbersome - pictures or slides should work in these cases. Limit your physical examples to three, unless they tell you otherwise. There is no need to overwhelm them with information or choices.

Leave them with some physical reminder of your presence. A business card works well pointing to your website; however you may want to also leave a postcard picturing your work or a brochure, or computer printout.

Expect them to want to do things their way, and submit to that. Each gallery is run differently and has different rules. Be kind to them and be respectful of their wishes. Treat it like an interview, and market your artwork as you would market yourself in an interview.

Show them your work, your portfolio, and post some images of your favourite works online, so that you can send them a link to view, rest is upto them.

Online selling is also an exciting world fast opening up, and making way for a global online galleries.

Go for it!
