Knowledge creates progress. Learning and asking questions helps people grow and change.
Religion is redundant and circular. No matter what, dogma brings you back to the place you began - every single time.
Something that can't be "explained away" requires the pursuit of knowledge and demands that questions be asked. Both of those concepts are almost always the beginning of the end of faith-based belief. So, of course fundamentalists believe in their ludicrous ideals so strongly that they're almost certainly going to reject even the most basics forms of lateral thinking.
Ascribing negative qualities to science and logic is a way for fundamentalist Christians to "protect the flock" from seeking answers outside of the church and the 'Good Book'.
