I'll tell you what I won't have.
Nothing lame or tacky like a cartoon character, no matter how much you love that cartoon. It becomes horrible when you're older unless you have the money to have it lasered by then, but its still a scar. The same with animals like a kitty or puppy or dolphin or whatever. Cheesy.
No ying-yang. No question marks. No exclamation marks.
No cheesy sayings like "All aboard" with a train. Poor remarks and degrading of self.
No portrait of anybody's face(s). Very disturbing.
Not in any foreign language, Chinese Japanese or whatever, unless its 100% exact & correct. Many funny and embarrassing moments that can humiliate for a lifetime.
Not on the butt, breasts, face, in between thighs... gross! on the ham/back of thigh area that is out of the blue and lame. Nor will I like it or find it likeable on the front & sides of the neck area.
Not on the major belly area cuz its gets stretch & distorted when pregnant. Post-birth it becomes odd sometimes, which is terrible.
I hope you find it somewhat useful so you won't be regretting much for years to come.
Tattoo is meant for self-expression AND representing one self. Its like branding almost.
Don't go into any poorly hygienic tattoo parlors in the dumps. You can end up with Hepatitus or other sick stuff.
Have fun!

I am in the process of having one done on the top of my back that is a collection of the word "wisdom" written in different languages with some filigree and flowers to make it cohesive. I chose wisdom because it is what I strive for. Knowledge is knowing things, but wisdom is knowing how to use what you know for the good of humanity. I am having it done in many languages to remind myself and others that it is not exclusive to one people, race, location, etc. It is placed at the top of my spine to show that I want wisdom to govern my actions. I am sure that the writing is correct because I found it myself, had it verified by people I trust who speak the language, and my aunt has done the part I have so far.
It is a bit of a long explanation, but there it is.
If you are considering one, think long and hard about it. As you age, you may regret a sagging stretched out Smurf on your hip or something like that. Tattoo's are fun, and I love mine. I think they are gorgeous; a truly underappreciated art.

Do some research and go somewhere clean with single-use needles and super sterile equipment.
