I have a program that allows me to make song beats and such and save them. Well, I need to re-install windows and I was wondering if when I re-loaded this program that those beats would be there or if I should save them on another media. I have made a CD of these beats, but am not sure if I will be able to open them back up. My hubby will b e furious if he is unable to open these beats

Saving it on a CD should be sufficient. Just to be safe, try loading the program onto someone else's computer then see if you can open the CD.

These files should be deleted along with everything else on your HD when you re-install windows. The CD may work, depending on the data type, but I'd do something else too. If this is a necessary situation, I recommend an external hard drive (I've got one of these WD MyBook things), you can get a lot of space for just over $100 US. Then you can load the files onto that, disconnect it, and they'll be accessible from the Ex-HD after the reformat.

The beats ARE NOT saved directly in the program and WILL BE DELETED from your hard drive when you re-install windows.

If I was you I would back up the actual files that these beats are stored as. When you make a cd (that plays in your car)it changes the file format. Open the program you are talking about and clik on File--->Open then hold ctrl and clik with the left mouse buttons on all the files you want to back up Then you should be able to right clik on the highlighted ones and select send to CD writer/Burner.
