I'm so sorry for the loss of your cat.
The first thing that comes to mind is that your cat may have ingested something poisonous.

Without a necropsy (animal eqivalent to autopsy), there is no way to know for sure, but if your cat was in perfect health prior, and goes outside or you've put down bait traps, then rat poison is fairly likely. And yes, eating a mouse that was exposed is enough poison to kill a cat, the bleeding happens several days after the poison is ingested. It binds up all the vitamin K in the animal's system so blood cannot clot at all, causing slow death by internal bleeding. It's pretty nasty stuff. Kills barn cats like that all the time.

Oh no I am so sorry. It's too bad you didn't have time to take it to emergency care. I would bet on poinsoning or ingesting of an object that tore the inside of the cats throat or stomach lining and threw it into shock. It probably came up to you for help. I am sorry once again. That is so sad. It's ok, these things happen...... -john (rock island, il)

O.M.G!!!!! Im SO sorry!!!!!! Most likely pioson. If it is an outside/inside cat it may have gotten into some rat pioson someone set out. Some rat piosons eat the rat from the inside out, you might be able to take it to the vet and they might be able to find out what was wrong. Again, Im extremely sorry. My dog died kinda like that a month ago. It was extremely thirsty and puked blood then died. We think it was pioson.

Oh no, I am so sorry! There was nothing you could do. How old is your kitty?
Some info I found:
There are a many possible causes of blood in vomit. These include intestinal parasites, gastric ulcers, respiratory tract infections, the ingestion of toxins / poisons, heartworm disease, bleeding disorders or foreign bodies into the intestinal tract, along with other causes.

Sounds to me like it has eaten a rat or mouse that has eaten a bait. A lot of those use a drug call warfarin that thins the blood to the point that the rodent bleeds to death internally. i haven't seen a cat die this way but have seen many birds of prey like owls who eat baited rodents and then hemorrhage to death. Sorry for your loss.
