I believe you're referring to Norfolk Southern Railway. It's based out of Norfolk, Virginia, and operates primarily in the eastern and midwest U.S.

The railroad is a result of the merger between Norfolk & Western and the Southern railroads. They have no commercial passenger service but do lease some rail to AMTRAK.
