Red is the most intense and powerful color of the color wheel. People attracted to the color red are very energetic and quick thinking. If red is your color, think also about the decorating style you are drawn to.
The most obvious is the colonial or early american period. Red, white and blue with perhaps some bright yellow accents would be appropriate here. If you have a traditional style, red and gold are colors often used here. Oriental style uses a lot of red and black. The tuscan style makes use of the shades of brick and terra cotta. Blue denim or olive green makes a good compliment to this style color combination. Contemporary also uses the combo of red, white, and black to good advantage.
Don't overlook the analogous color scheme that uses colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel. Avoid combining warm and cool colors in this scheme.
By using the color red and it's closest neighbors you can create a harmonious analogous color scheme. Usually analogous schemes use three, five or seven neighboring colors. Avoid using too many hues in the analogous scheme, because this may ruin the harmony.
An example of the color scheme would be red, orange-red and orange. Going in the other direction red, blue red, magenta, fuchsia and purple would be an analogous color scheme.

I was just watching a designing show on TV that was decorating with red and they used gold, cream, green, and two shades of red. It sounds kinda weird but It looked beautiful. The floors were a dark brown wood, the one wall was red, the other was cream, they put a green chair in the corner, with a dark brown table, The dinning room table was a golden brown and the chairs that went around the table had cream and gold on the seat of the chairs. The drapes were a lighter red than the walls, and as bizarre as this sounds it was really pretty.

Clear yellow
It is a color I found at home depot. Fabrics and paint. It looks like white but does not have the harshness of bright white.
I think the red and white appeal is very clean whether it is a sophisticated or casual look your going for. A third accent color is easy to throw in too.

Try Gold.
The only other contrasting color would be white.
It really depends on what you are going to use it for.
And remember red comes in many shades and so does Gold. Find the right combination.

the choices are endless it depends on the type of room and the effect that you would like to create Go to the paint section of a handyman store and pick out samples that appeal then you could try painting the desired colours using sample pots to check it out further as larger areas can look different to smaller samples however if still not sure err on the side of pleasant and not fiery as you will be living with it for some time......and above all else have fun as that is what decorating should be.

I would check a color wheel. There's plenty of them online. And the visual of the color wheel will show you what you're looking for. Most of them even have instructions as to what properties contrasting/complimentary colors have.
Good luck though :)

Our kitchen is gold on top of the chair railing, and dark red below the chair railing. And must say the gold and red are very nice looking and really lend a homey feel to the kitchen.

Not sure what you're going for, but black looks very nice against red. As an accent color.

if it's a dark red (almost maroon) i'd go with an olive green. nothing bright just very muted. i'd recommend a few shades lighter to keep it from looking dank. if it's a kids room or something and you're looking for bright, yellow always works well without being overpowering.
