How long will you be there? This will determine how much time do you have for visiting all the sights and for taking photos. I am a keen photographer myself and there are so many places to take photos - not just the typical tourist sites but also the REAL people and places of Bangkok.

Do some research on the internet about Bangkok. There are so may many website.

The usual places to go first: The Grand Palace, Emerald Buddha Temple, Wat Pho, Wat Arun (you take a boat across the river for this - more great opportunities for photos), Any place along the river is always good. Lunch up the top of the Baiyoke Tower then photos of the whole city from there (the tallest building in Thailand). Lumpini Park in the early morning is great for photos as well - if you can get up and be there by 6.30 - 7am.

But generally, most of Bangkok is great for photos - just to show the exotic culture, lifestyles, and night life and the contrast of modern skyscrapers co-existing with historical run-down shacks.

a bit further out from Bangkok is Erawan Museum which is an amazing structure. Two hours west of Bangkok is the Death Railway and Bridge over river Kwai (pronounce Kwae as in "air") plus the tiger temple at Kanchanaburi.

There is sooo much to see.

enjoy

Last time i was in Bangkok, i walked out to the right side of the airport where taxis are waiting to take you anywhere you want to go. If your into the shopping, then probably best to stay in Bangkok - but if your out for adventure then you have to get out and see alot more of Thailand.

If your going on holiday there, ask your travel agent to see if they can set you up with a nice stay in bangkok for 3 days and then move around. I wished i had gone to see the zoo and alot of different things up further north such as going to see hell-fire pass and the Bridge over the River Kwai.

I wished i had also gone to see the royal palaces, the buddist momuments and other historical stuff.

It really depends on what your after - if ur into the beaches etc then maybe better to go see either Pattaya or Phuket.
