Hey, can i ask you a question in order to answer your question? You appear to be a female. If you were in the military, would it be OK if all the men showered with you? How about just watched you shower, naked?
The answer to your question is that we men don't want someone who is sexually attracted to us taking showers with us! It just makes us uncomfortable. Again, wouldn't it make YOU uncomfortable if men were showering with YOU?
Of course, maybe, in that instance, the attraction would at least be mutual, or could be.
I hope my answer makes sense, it's meant quite sincerely.

Honestly, it doesn't make sense to me either. When the bullets are flying, I wouldn't give a crap if the person next to me is gay or not. The only thing I'd want to know is: Are they up to the fight?
You gotta ask yourself, with over 3100 dead in Iraq, there has to be a percentage of themt hat were gay, but never came out. Why is it that they can be honored for their sacrifice, but if they had come out they would have been rejected?

the gays will get a beating thats why. read some of the flaming posts elsewhere on y answers to get an idea for yourself. The military has to recruit young because once you get older you get some sense in your head and that makes things hard when you are trying to kill a bunch of people you dont have a good reason to kill. Young men in america have some homophobia to work out of their systems and would take it out on the openly gay. Can you imagine some corn fed Iowa 18 yo having to take orders from someone who says they are gay? Its ripe for abuse and scandal leave it alone!!!

Okay, well let me pose an unrelated scenario..lets say theres a soldier who...i dont know.... drinks his own urine..
Sure its perfectly healthy, some people do it, but most people choose not to. If this soldier came out as a urine drinker, he would probably be on the receiving end of a lot of ridicule. Why? Because his practice of drinking his own urine is weird, as opposed to the more normal practice of not drinking urine, and drinking water like a regular person. Hopefully you guys can draw the analogy here.
I dont see why gays think they need to be so open about it... I dont run around and proclaim how straight I am and likewise I dont want to hear about how gay you are....

At this point, I think it would be very wise of ALL gays in the military to come out...with a very loud noise. The "dont' ask, don't tell" will force the military to oust them...given the insane remarks of the leaders, I think it is time that ALL gays give up on the services and leave them high and dry...all the upper crust of the services will have to be discharged...ain't that a kick in the pants! At least, they would get out of the lunacy of Iraq...leave it to the straight generals and lunatic president to fight the "war." It is time to revolt, fellow gays, and this is a great way to start the revolution. Good luck. And to those stupid people here who say, "gays will get a beating," make sure you know what you are talking about before you start swinging your fists...it just may be you who are on the floor bleeding your little heart out. Gays go to the gym, learn to defend themselves very well, and are in far better shape than most flabby straight boys. Yes, be very careful who you insult, buddies. It will be you picking yourselves up off the floor,. Gays no longer will sit by and let idiots pick on them. Fools!

because it's against the UCMJ (uniform code of military justice) and admitting such subjects your to discharge from the service per the regulations. You are asked before entering military service.

I think that you speculation on the reasons is pretty accurate. However, you really cannot ask people in this forum to state why it makes a difference - we aren't the people who make it impossible or at least difficult for them to be open. That burden falls on their fellow soldiers and superiors in the millitary - they are the ones to whom it seems to make a difference.

Why do gays feel the need to be open about their business, is it because they need to be validated by others?
