Yet again--another wee Beagle on my front step--fed her, housed her for a few days--took her to the local vet to be scanned for a chip--nothing there. She did have tatoo in her ear but couldn't find the owner and so---I've already got two Beagle potatoes living the good life on my couch (that were left with no chips or tatoos-despite ads in the papers) next to the 2 labs I actually bought!! So this one went off to the shelter--I feel awful about it!! Nice dog, lovey dog---I hope her owner finds her!!

LedZep - I live in the big middle of the country in Ohio--many acres--hunters all around--they lose their dogs in the woods and they end up on my front porch------we actually have a little country store with a bulliten board to post lost and found hunting dogs!

Nowdays many counties will not let you adopt an animal until they chip it first. That way if it ends up there again they can find you..... forcing people to be responsible.

There is no reason on Gods green earth to not chip your pet in this day and age. It costs next to nothing (or is free at most shelters) and once you pay the one time $12.00 for the national website that administers it anybody who finds it knows who to call.

But people are slow to adopt technology. Even for humans. The big thing now is hospitals having a reader that can read a persons medical history. Even people who have super serious conditions where this could mean life or death don't get a chip.

So I suppose it is hard to get people to chip their pet..... I mean it seems difficult enough to just get people to put a dogtag on their dog.

How do you wind up with two of the same breed of dog on your doorstep? I have a Dachshund/Cocker Spaniel and he's chipped.
