which camera do you have. i also have a similar camera. mine is sony dcrtrv 480. what i do is connect it from a firewall cable and copy the entire or part of movie by windows movie maker. you should first check if you have a firewire or i1394 port on your camera and computer. typically cameras have a 4 pin port while desktops have 6 pin and laptops have 4 pin. check it out and you should buy a firewire cable. it costs about 30 to 40 dollars. once you connect it and set your camera to play/edit mode, the computer recognizes it and gives you option, this happens with my xp home. you can manually open windows movie maker and copy it too. you can change a variety of settings that make movie file very big to ordinary cd type. you can change it all. but first check the firewire port and get a cable. thats all you need and if you like computers it is like bread and butter.

A firewire (1394) cable link for vcam to pc/laptop is best for video transfer quality (also fastest). But if by this time, you still haven't got the rite (4, 6 pin?) firewire cable, video capture can also be done thru USB as I had experienced few years back with my old Dell laptop (no firewire slot). USB is slower but still can do.
I then posted a question in answers on the procedure for video capture and the best answer was/is (am still using it) thru Windows Movie Maker (Windows XP/Vista).

a. Set the camera mode to play recorded video.
b. In the Movie Maker Tasks pane/Capture Video, click Capture from video device.
see WMMaker help- it is very detailed.

You going to have to get a cord.

Most supported FireWire (4 pin) to 6 pin computer.

You need to see if you have a firewire socket and then have a firewire on your computer. Otherwise you'll need to upgrade your system.

An alternative also requires cords, the AV cords. An a capture card or USB dangle from Turtle Beach or Dazzel.
