i have a new cat who needs vitamins but wont eat the wet food we mix them in any suggestions?

I had the same problem with my cat. He was too smart for his own good. I even tried stinky favorite things like liverwurst to hide the meds. I finally resorted to just sticking it directly into his mouth and ensuring that he ate it that way.

First of all, is the wet food the type she normally eats? Cats do not take easily to an abrubt change in food... it needs to be done gradually. If she has been eating dry food, put some dry on top of the wet food and see if she will keep eating until she's eating the wet food. If it the wet food is her normal wet food then she is probably rejecting it becuase she can smell too much of the vitamins. When my cat does this, I crush only half of the pill in his normal wet food and give it to him only when I know he is truly hungry. Then I give the other half crushed in his next meal 8 hrs later when I know he will be hungry again.

You can also mix the pill in canned tuna - every cat I know can't resist tuna (human-grade tuna in water, not oil!).

Or you can administer the pill directly into cat's mouth. Wrap him in a towel so that all his limbs are immobalized. Sit him on your lap facing outward. With one hand, gently pry open his mouth. With the other hand, pop the pill through the SIDE of his mouth and back of his tongue. Then hold his mouth shut with one hand and with the other, gently massage his throat using downward motions. The cat will usually swallow as a reflext action. DO NOT DO THIS IF THE PILL IS LARGE.

I had the same problem.Take the pill and crush it into a fine powder.Take the tip of your finger get it wet and stick it into the fine powder.Open her mouth and place the fine powder on your finger to the back her tongue. Shut her mouth close for about 10 seconds. Then give her a little tuna for a treat.I tried to put the pills in my cats tuna.She ate the tuna and spit out the pill out.I got tried of playing games with my cat.My cat is 12 years old now.Good luck

Buy dry cat food with the Vitamins your cat needs in it.
If heart medicine, or something else your cat needs but not all of the time, try mixing it in a 1/2 can of regular tuna.
Don't forget to leave plenty of water out for her. (also a lot
of cats love cheese.)

My cat HATES taking pills, he kept spitting them out. I finally started crushing the pills, and mixing with a very small amount of baby food. Then I smear it on his upper lip. He licks it right off, as most cats hate being dirty. Works like a charm!

Take the cat, hold its nose straight up into the air, open the jaw, drop the pill in, let the cat drop its head, but keep the jaw closed. Wait until you know the cat swallowed.

You can buy a product called Pill Pockets at the vet. They are made for cats and dogs who are difficult to pill. This might not work, but it is worth a try.

If this doesn't work, your just going to have to force feed them to him. Make sure the pills are a good size for swallowing (use a pill splitter if you need one). Hold him still, open his mouth, and drop the pill as far back in his throat as you can, and shut his mouth. Wait for him to swallow. If he won't swallow, trying giving a short blow of air on his nose, or, put a drop of water on your finger and put it on his nose; this will make him lick his nose and swallow.

GET a pill popper from the vet and it shoots the pill to the back of the mouth and down it goes..

Butter works very well... and all cats love butter.. butter it up and slip it down... lol>>>> Place pill between the cheek and the teeth as far back as you can get it.. then slide it into the back of the mouth *behind* the back teeth..

Try sticking it inside a hotdog,some meat.If you have any grave mix,mix it in a dish with some dry food and the vitamin-DON'T LET THE DOG SEE YOU DO IT!!.......And try that.
