Hmm... I dunno. Children will believe just about anything you tell them, especially if you're an adult. I understand the spirit of the quote, basically that people allow themselves to be convinced because they *want* to believe. It's clever, no doubt. And true for a lot of people, but not everyone. Obviously it can't be that easy for everyone, or there would be no atheists or agnostics.

The quote does not make much sense. A child would be ready and willing to believe that something as great as candy is good for them. It is much harder to convince a child that they should not eat the candy. This is similar to the religious. Being a part of a special group and feeling that they are so much better and more important than others who are not part of thier group feels soooo good that they do not care what the truth is.

The quote makes no since. If you told a child that candy was good for them they would believe it. So this came from an atheist? Then it would be easy to tell a child that God is real and good for them.

Evidently, it's not that difficult convincing people there's a God.
Just look at how Christianity is dominating the world as the most popular religion.
The truth is that it's more difficult convincing Christians that there is NO god. Maybe they have strong-faith. Mayhap atheists are out-numbered.

I would have to agree with this quote based on the fact that I do believe there is a God and I tend to believe that all living souls posses this knowledge that there is an extreme being. That is why so many take so many paths to search for Him/Her.
Brightest Blessings!

Perhaps it's true when it comes to convincing people there is a God they can make up however they want. However when it comes to a REAL GOD, a God that one is accountable to and totally dependent on, that is hard to convince someone to believe in.

I think to some degree the quote is in part accurate. God is a "warm and fuzzy" for people who believe in Him (which includes me by the way) so yes, he is candy to us. However, candy is not good for a kid...where God (in my opinion) has been great for me.

I like this quote, and I certainly agree with it, we're taught from childhood to listen to an obey our elders, so when we are told to worship a god, it is essentially the same as being told not to take candy from a stranger.

no. thats not true. everyone is different on their perspective of god... trying to convince some people that there is a god is about as hard as convincing someone that dislikes beer that beer tastes good.their still gonna have their perspective. regaurdless of what you say.
unless they choose to aknowledge what you say and change their perspective.
it wont make a difference.

I'm Christian, the quote is basically true, however, with some reservations as many religions put lots of restrictions on those of faith. So many of our "atheists" find it plain easier not to have religion.
