Well lets put it this way....My husband said no matter what always give at least 10% to the Lord. Okay, that was fine, until one time the bills got tight and I decided we would do it next time. Well, most of the bills bounced, somehow and I never did that again. We lost out on the blessings of God from it. Even when I don't think we can pay all the bills, as long as I give to God first, somehow all the bills are able to get paid. The way I see it, I can't afford to Not give to God.
The bible says with the same measure that you give to God, he will give you back with the same measure. So God uses the same measuring stick you do when He blesses you. If you sow in pennies, you will reap in pennies. Sow in dollars or hundreds of dollars, that is the way you will get it back. It can be hard though, if you don't just make up your mind to do it no matter what.

See the recent * Feb. 28, 2007 Time * magazine, Page 28: "Pilfering Priests", for one take on your main question (but not on the addition below.) Of course, you can't rob God... you're always stealing from people
Time Sub-Title: Still recovering from the sexual abuse scandal of five years ago, the Catholic Church is facing another crisis: clergy who steal money from the parishes.
Time Pull-quote: "85% of the Dioceses in One Survey Reported Embezzlement Cases; 11% Had Scandals of $500,000 Or More"

this is such a fundamental principle for any Christian. and it amazes me that so many people fail to recognize the importance of it !! i personally never found it hard - i grew up giving tithes and offerings, and i was raised to know that God only requires 10%, when really all of it is His, so although He requires some, He lets me be a steward of the rest :D

I tithed when I was christian. I almost felt robbed when I figured out what a lark religion is. Mostly, I felt gullible.
The church I went to still benefits from the money I lost.
Bummer for me.

This good Christian boy (man) does give at least 10% of my income to various ministries that further My Heavenly Father's kingdom.
God owns it all anyway, and since he has entrusted me with some of it, I need to be responsible with it.
It feels so good to give back financially.
Do not be stingy with God. He gave His Son Jesus...obeying Him is the least we can do.

How do you give money to God? Give it to the church where they rape little boys? Or give it to churches who recruited Republican voters so that Bush could continue killing people. I'd much rather give it to people who actually do God's work. Is it really neccessary for priests to drive Mercedes?
