pooping in his sleep?

has anyone ever had a child that popped in their sleep. my son refuses to poop in the potty and we have gotten him to start trying at least, he will sit on the potty now, but never goes. then he poops in his sleep. i don't know how to deal with this because he doesn't do it on purpose. we have tried getting him up at night. he doesn't pee in the bed only poop. he is 4.

To be honest pooping is the hardest thing for children to learn. Sounds like he is holding it in and when he goes to sleep he then don't have control. It's his last thing to hold on to his babyhood. Rewards is a start. Is he in preschool yet, sometimes positive pure-pressure can work. Talk to his Dr. for ideas. But I bit before long he'll start to go on his own. A little patience.
