I have had bursitis in my right shoulder for about 2 years. I have a dull pain all the time but a sharp pain every once in a while. I've dont the physical therapy and the corisone shot but neither helped in the long run. What would be the next step??

The question is...what is causing the bursitis? Faulty shoulder mechanics? A bone spur? Poor shoulder mobility? etc. I think the first test is to have more tests done...have you had an x-ray to rule out the bone spur? If present, considering the length of time you've had the pain, it may be time to follow up with a surgeon. Poor shoulder mechanics? The solution is posture corection and probably more PT. A bursae does not get inflammed without a cause....

The first step is probably an x-ray and then an MRI if the x-ray is clear...

I saw the word bursitis and thought of my hubby. He has it in his left elbow. You have some scar tissue some where ..at least that is what the doctor told him when he saw the ex rays. You may have to have it seen into and have some surgery. He told him if its not any better after 6 weeks he will do it out patient. Hubby has already had his elbow drained 5 times by our family doc. this time he went to an orthopedic. You might see one of those kinds of Docs. Heat does hubby some good but its not a cure all. Luck to you.

Find a licensed acupuncturist in your area, and give it a shot. I have treated many people with bursitis of the shoulder, actually one today, and have had great results. Often one gets substantial relief after a couple of treatments.

Te best professional is the Chiropractor. The doctor of chiropractic can sort out problems with the shoulder better than anyone else because they adjust, do muscle work, and pain modulation.

Cortisone makes it worse! Especially in the long run.

Find a doctor of chiropractic. For more information see www.acatoday.com

You can get another steroid injection-probably the first one was not injected into the bursa itself which is why it didn't work. Otherwise, surgery.
