You hit the nail on the head, Docelec2000! People who truly do not believe in God would not "waste time" cruising this website. The "atheists" that attack the Christian lifestyle, I believe, are angry either at God or themselves for something (or why would they spend sooo much time attacking something or someone that "doesn't exist"). That's one of the reasons why God wants us to love our enemies. They may not be an enemy after all. They might just be someone who is desperately looking for a reason to trust in God again.

Atheists are hardly the only ones attacking people. I can't log on here without reading some post from a christian making fun of, criticizing or in some way being hateful to those who believe differently.
What opens the christian lifestyle up to attacks from non-believers is that they simply won't mind their own business. Christians can't be content to lead their own lives the way they think they ought to; they have to try and force everyone else to as well.
I know many christians will say that of course they would never do that, that everyone has the right to believe what they want etc, but do those people support politicians who oppose gay marriage or the right to choose abortion? Do they support forcing prayer or the teaching of religion (creationism) in schools? If so, then they are attempting to force their version of morality on the rest of us who, quite frankly, just aren't interested. That is wrong, and those of us being coerced have a right to defend ourselves.

Some people had horrible upbringings in christian families and have every right to rant and rave about the actual practice of this religion.
Those of us lucky enough to be raised by parents who didn't teach us that myths were real do not attack God fearing people at every turn. We do push back against attempts to saudi arabia-ify this country, with their public indoctrination and practice of their myth systems. We don't wish our rights tampered with, thank you. We don't wish religious myth taught as science.
Also, I find that just talking pleasantly about reality - like the fact that the creation myth in Genesis uttterly and completely parralels an egyptian creation myth - upsets some Christians and makes them perceive an attack when none is there.

Everything is open to attack. Well, verbal attack. At least in countries where speech is protected, and here on the internet. I think that's a very good thing, all told. You're essentially calling some atheists liars here, is that not an attack? So why did you do it? Your reasons are probably the same as theirs.

First of all I love the word Atheist. A theist. ok, now that I have had my chuckle... perhaps its just an out lash of always being put down and judged by christians. For people who are supposed to be loving a nurturing christians can come across as harsh. Like not helping people who don't belong to their faith. If anything we should love people who do not share our values. I always visited the religious ceremonies of my childhood friends to better understand the people around me. God made them to did he not? Why not love all of creation instead of only being compassionate to those who look and think like you. After all the native americans opened their arms and look what good christian values did to them..... Love thy neighbor as thyself. try it, it makes you feel warm and gooey inside. besides atheists tend to be intelligent and kind people. I know more good hearted, non judging, open minded people who are atheists than are christian... which is kind of sad really.

Most "God-fearing" people are good and decent folk who just want to live their lives their own way. I got no problem with that.
I have a problem with religions and philosophies that have a need to convert the world. Religions and philosophies like that start wars and are the leading cause of man-against-man killing.

Why is it religious people attack people who disagree with them?
And to answer your question, I only "attack" Christians who are arrogant enough to assume that, because I don't believe in religion, I am wrong and my views don't count. When someone start prosletyzing they are a) assuming my viewpoint is wrong, and b) my life is worse than their's and therefore need to be "saved".

People who feel that they have to convince others that only they are right (this includes Christians by the way) are really not very comfortable with themselves. It makes them feel powerful if they can get "one up" on someone. Personally I think it is a waste of time. I would much rather discuss things on which we agree than disagree.

That's only your opinion. I do not see it that way. I do wonder why God fearing people feel attacked when someone questions them.
