Some general tips:

1. Keep brushing to a minimum since it promotes breakage. Brushing wet hair is a definite no-no; use a wide-toothed comb when hair is wet.

2. Strive for low-maintenance hair. Hair dryers, curling irons, perms and hair colors all damage hair. If you must blow-dry, use a cool setting and keep the dryer 6 inches (15 cm) from your hair.

3. Protect your hair from extreme weather. Wear a hat on sunny days and keep hair well moisturized in the dry winter months.

4. Apply a leave-in conditioner or pomade to the ends of your hair daily to keep them strong.

5. Snip away any split ends you spot. Cut at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) above the split. A split end will split the hair all the way up to the scalp, so snip it as soon as you spot it.

6. Schedule a trim with your hairstylist if you start seeing a lot of split ends.

AND, also, ask your stylist to recommend thermal protection products.

The first way to get rid of your split ends is to have your hair trimmed. Getting your hair trimmed every two months is pretty much mandatory for great hair.

Do you color your hair a lot? Do you have any chemical treatments or have you in the past, such as perms or relaxers? Do you blow dry often? How about heat style with curling or straightening irons? Do you spend time in the sun or tanning bed? Any and all of these will damage your hair. Think of your hair as a piece of antique lace. If you dyed it, put chemicals on it, stuck it in the dryer, and then laid it out in the sun, it'd look pretty rough, wouldn't it? That's what's happening to your hair. If you can, stop coloring, perming, or relaxing your hair. Try to blow dry, at the most, every other day, and heat style only once or twice a week if necessary. Use shampoos without sulfates (many of these are available at your local Trade Secret) and don't forget to use a nourishing conditioner on your ends.

The only way to get rid of split ends is to have your hair trimmed at the ends. However, after doing so, buy a heat protectant and/or leave in conditioner for your hair (I use CHI in the red bottle and John Frieda products). Good luck -- hope this helps you!! :D

Keep your hair trimmed. Get about a half inch taken off every 6-8 weeks. There is no other way to get rid of them once you have them. After getting your hair trimmed just use salon products on your hair for they are better for your hair. No waxes and ingredients that dry or leave build up.

First you most likely have to get the ends trimmed off.

Next, you must make sure your hair is well conditioned so that your hair won't split.

Spending tons of money? Well professional products are best because the ingredients used in the product are better than the "over the counter" they cost a few pennies more. However, professional product last longer because you end up using less of it than you do the cheap stuff.

In this industry, you get what you pay for.

White Rain Shampoo and Conditioner is the best for this. It norishes the bottoms but doesnt get your hair greasy or anything. It was voted in thee top 5 best hair products.

It is really cheap also I think they have it at walmart and it is like less than 2 dollars a bottle.

You still need to get you hair trimmed at the bottoms a little which you can go to like Cost Cutters or Vantastic Sams for like 10 - 15 dollars.

Good Luck!! =D

Split ends indicate dry hair. You will have to get a trim to get those split ends out of the picture, then begin using moisturizing shampoo and/or conditioner, and maybe even hair pomade to keep your hair follicles healthy and flexible.

Split ends are a pain, aren't they?
