Radio transmitter. Since you get a radio wave every time you switch current in a wire on and off, a radio transmitter consists of a battery, a switch (usually a tube or transistor) and some wire. The switch turns the current through the wire on and off at millions or billions or trillions of times per second, and the radio waves thus formed move out through the air at the speed of light, pretty much in all directions. To send messages, you use another switch to produce short bursts of these radio waves according to a code you and your receipent have previously agreed upon. Morse code is one of these. You can also send the sort of digital code that appears in an MP3 file, which gives you present-day digital radio.
