generally inductances are connected in serious design. Why this is so?

Inductance, in Henrys, adds in a series connection, so the series connection is a way to get more inducatance by simply adding more inductors. With capacitors, parallel connections add.

Of course they're used seriously. Inductance is no joking matter.

Because if you're not serious about it, people could get hurt. Inductors kill.
