I went in last week to get a closed MRI, but I couldn't do it, I am afraid of in closed spaces. What's a open MRI like?

I understand how you feel. I have to get one done every year. I always ended up taking Valium before I went and I made it through. However; I also did an open MRI last year. Didn't need any medicine. I too am claustrophobic and hate being in tight closed spaces. You will be fine with the open MRI...you may want to ask for a wash cloth to put over your eyes, but it is MUCH easier! Good luck..

it's kinda like what it says; open.
think of this; a closed mri is a full circle and an open mri is a half of a circle or think of being put in a large barrel standing up w/o the two ends, this would be a closed mri. then if you were put in a barrel that is cut in half, you would be in an open mri. open mri is not that bad and you should'nt feel as closed in. hope this helps...

Hello its an OPEN MRI. This meaning your not closed in. Take some medication they offer and you won't care if its open or closed. But really Open is OPEN. Your not cramped or in a tube so it is easier. Good Luck. Take the meds.
