I love German Shepherds and Boxers--and mid-sized to large dogs in general. But all dogs are just great.

Me, too. Great Danes, Boxers, Shepherds. But I never met a dog I didn't like.

The Papillion is one of the top ten smartest dog breeds (it's number eight) and the only one in the ten that's toy sized. If you're curious about the list:

*1* Border collie
*2* Poodle
*3* German shepherd
*4* Golden retriever
*5* Doberman pinscher
*6* Shetland sheepdog
*7* Labrador retriever
*8* Papillon
*9* Rottweiler
*10* Australian cattle dog

Smart dogs make better pets! Until the learn how to open the fridge and eat all night ;)

I had a lab/pit bull mix that I got from the pound...He was the absolute best dog ever!!!!!!!!!! in every way he was perfect...I also have a black boxer who is amazing as well..he is very hyper though and he is very head strong...I am going to be sending him to training...but other then that he is a very good dog...He was from a breeder as well..I do feel that pound puppies are the best route to go..They have less health problems and in the long run are just as good and sometimes better then the pure breeds...Good luck in your search! I am sure you will love any dog that you end up with..If you are going to get a pure breed please read up on the breeds you are looking at and make sure they fit your lifestyle and personality...that is a big deal when deciding on a puppy...i wish you well with your search.

I am a HUGE dog lover, but I think my favorite breed is Boxer.

Here's what I like:

Mid-sized, as opposed to too big. A bigger option would be a mastiff.

Short hair. Less dander, less clean-up, less grooming.

Great temperament. She's great with kids, athletic, but not hyper-active.

Smart. You can find smart dogs in most breeds, but boxers seem to have fewer of the "adorably dumb" ones.

Fun and Loyal. Again, you can find these traits in all dogs, but I've been lucky with the boxers. Easy to train, and up for anything.

I enjoy greyhounds they come wide range of personalities and nothing is more beautiful than watching a group of greyhounds take off and run at full speed, when then run by you it sounds just like the thunder of horses running and you realizing then just how much power they exert when running.

I enjoy the chinese crested for the playful good natured antics.

I enjoy shepherd for their ability to quickly learn new things

I have grown up with, raised and owned several breeds, coonhounds, beagles, labs, cockers, mutts, a doberman , an eskie, a malamute, the breeds mentioned above and there was something about every single one that I enjoyed, and I glad I have time to share with each and every one even though many of the past breeds I owned would no longer be suitable for me at this stage of my life as I no longer have the energy to keep up with some of the more active ones, but that has proved to be a good thing as slowing down has introduced me to a greater variety of breeds.

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever...

Truly the best dog I have ever owned. Super smart. Bred to look like a fox with a red coat and white flash on it's tail.

Supposedly ducks are attracted to the white flash as the dog sits on the edge of the lake/river waving it's tail, and will come closer, allowing the hunter to shoot them more easily.

I never used her for hunting, but she was a natural born herder. And looked out for every other animal I owned (and I had quite a menagerie from cats through guinea pigs and even a robin and a woodpecker).

Mutts because they are the most prolific. I also think it is healthier for the genetic stock of dogs in general to mate with other breeds.
But if i had to pick a favorite pure breed, i would have to go Jack Russel Terrier for small breed
German Shepard for med-large breed
and Irish Wolfhound for large-giant breed.

The main resaon for choosing those specific breeds is aesthetics. I like the look of the breeds, as well as the elevated intelligence level and ease of trainablity.

I agree! All dogs are great! they are also great big piles of love covered in fur.

I adore Boxers too! I've got one that is 9 1/2 years old, and is still the most playful, lovable, loyal dog! The reason why is because she's protective of our home, but yet EXTREMELY GENTLE with my kids. I've gotta tell ya, we've also got 2 Border Collies that are just over a year old and they are so well behaved, easily trained because of their intelligence, and very gentle as well. I would say that these two breeds are my favorites simply because of their loyalty, and sweet dispositions. I would recommend either breed to families and singles alike.

It really depends on what kind of dog I have at the time. Right now I have a min-pin, black lab mix, and a chihuahua. In the past I have had beagles, austrailian queensland (he was probably my favorite. I had him from the time I was three years old until I was 20.), shar-pei, and a poodle. I loved all of my dogs very much. Someday I would like to have a bull terrier. That is the dog that is the Target dog.

At this point in my life, I would love to have a papillon. It's a smaller size dog, with a great temperament. I previously had a large dog - a rottweiler - that was just a big, sweet teddy bear. I raised my rotty from 3 weeks of age. He was definitely my baby. There were many nights when he went to sleep lying on my chest, listening to my heartbeat. Unfortunately, he got too big for me to take care of and I allowed a family friend to adopt him. So a smaller dog is definitely in my future.

I like German Shepherds. Intelligent, handsome, loyal dogs. The best.
My good friend Roy Rogers had a German Shepherd named Bullet, and Corporal Rusty had Rin Tin Tin at Fort Apache.
