I will be relocating from US to Taiwan in the next few weeks. Many of my things I am shipping, but I have 5 laptops that I would prefer not to ship or check for theft/damage reasons. Trying to get a feel for the rules/guidelines, whether I should declare, etc.

you know, i used to have this same problem, i used to travel for work and woul dhave to bring three lap tops along for the ride, it's not a fun time at customs, even with my canadian security clearence i would still get help up and figure to add an extra 30 minutes for my arrival for each computer. in most case's its all very routine questions about why you have them and might have to turn them on to show why you have them all. but now a days, and thank fed ex for this, fed ex has a way to ship things like this just, if you go to a fed ex warehouse and ship from there, you can ask for registry shipping, and pick up signed only by you, where they will have someone match your signatures to when you sent them. also, they have a security thing in place now called bang meters, they are stickers placed on your box with a liquid in a pouch, if the box gets shook to much the liquid changes colors and they will be at fault for any damages. i would consider making a call to fed ex to hear more about all this from them directly.
