I think it's quite rare, as it's a mental illness where I guess you could say thoughts are scattered.

I think the medication is more so to give a person a more harmonious, calmer existence than without the medication, it's more to do with their well being, and their safety than being cured.

No cure, but I believe they have found the gene responsible for hereditary schizophrenia. Most of the above answers are right, in that the medications suppress the symptoms.
Schizophrenia can also be caused by using drugs. I work in a psychiatric hospital and have a few patients that have drug induced schizophrenia. They basically have permanent brain damage and are a danger to the public.
If you have schizophrenia, please make sure you take your medications and try to find a support group so that you don't feel so hopeless and alone in your illness.

many therapy sessions will help. But if for severe case of schezophinia, may need medication to control/prevent sudden relapse. The medications will help the body to be more aware, calm, relax and rest. Some of these medicines may be ions/minerals that help to balance up the chemical imbalances in the brain which coz the lost of self-control.

Tough One... I really don't so. I believe the meds will help out in what is going on in the brain. Extensive Treatment with medication. Never be ashame to take meds. Anyone who makes fun of people who suffer from Mental Illness needs to wake up in the 21st Century to get educated...

theres no actual cure for schizophrenia (note spelling) known to man yet.

there is a cure and there is prevention - but it's undiscovered. there is therapy which is useful - and most of the time, they can help a schizophrenic incorporate in the work force.

No. Not yet. Medication doesn't cure it either, it just supresses the symptoms so you can function better.

It cannot be "cured." It's a lifelong disease. However, many people who deal with a low level of the disease can live normal lives with it.

Schizophrenia is presently not curable. It can be controlled only by medications.
