I am a German citizen engaged to a US Soldier?

Well my fiance is afraid that when he marry me before he gets his orders back to the states that he have to stay longer in germany. Is that right? I mean can the army make him to stay even we already planned on living in the states? Or is that just a rumor?

My husband is in the Army and was stationed in Germany for 1 year. So I know for certain that a soldier's orders are solely determined by the Army based on specific job or units needed at a given location at a given time. It is not uncommon for a soldier's orders to be changed or extended, but it has no basis on what his personal plans are. The Army can extend your fiance's orders in Germany if they feel his specific job or unit is still needed in that area. Or they may continue with their plans to give him orders to return to the US within the original timeframe. But there is no way of determining whether his orders will be extended or not. I would recommend waiting until your fiance receives his orders and is transferred back to the US before you marry. Once he is in the US, you can receive a fiance's visa to come to the US for your wedding. Then after you are married, you can apply for a green card to receive permanent residency in the US.

First, the army can do whatever they want, they don't care a twit about your plans together, you live your life around what the army says. As far as whether if you do this means the army will do th at .. never heard of that one, but I don't know, so can't answer it.

However ... you mention you are a German citizen and that you plan on living in the states. Have you and your fiance already filed the required paperwork so you can move to the states with him? What is the status of this paperwork?

Whever he is, be happy if you can be with him! That is what is most important! Also, though, make sure he isn't delaying marriage plans by saying things like this ... sounds a bit fishy to me .... check it out with an official.

As a former Army Wife (well common law ) this is how it goes. His first wife is the Army.You are the second. When the phone rings he goes it doesn't matter if you have the whole family over or if its your daughters dance recital that night.
I don't think it will make him stay in Germany longer but it is possible that he may have to go back before you due to flight arrangements etc. Hey may still have to ask for permission to marry some units are funny about that. Go talk to the family resource liaison or army chaplain if you have any questions.

The Army does what it does without worrying which soldiers might get married. Why don't you get married anyway? You will be togather and you will be able to come back with him whenever he returns. We are short of soldiers in the middle east and they could be moving soldiers around in the future. Everything is a mess, we have politicians that are trying to get the troops out of the middle east so everything is confused. It is hard for anybody to make plans. Probably not a problem depending upon when he's scheduled to rotate back to the States. It takes some time to complete the necessary paperwork and background checks before the Army will process you as a dependent spouse and you'll be able to get a spousal visa. i'm no expert but as far as i know an enlisted soldier has to go where he is ordered when he is odered so i'd say it doesn't matter what your plans are. you're pretty much at their mercy. hope it all works out but get used to moving around.
