For those of you who attend Catholic elementary schools or have a child who attended Catholic elementary school.....why did you choose a Catholic school? What were the pros and cons of going to a Catholic school? Is there anything that you wish you had known prior? Do you regret it?

i went to Catholic school up until the 4th grade. I loved my school. it was connected to the most beautiful cathedral and the community was great. I loved everyone there. As for all the answers from people who had a bad experience i guess it just depends on location. Like any school go before hand and talk to some of the staff and look around the school. try to get a feel of the community within the school. After giving your child time to adjust to the school really listen to what they have to say. If they still sound really unhappy after 3 months then really reconsider your options. Your child is the one who goes there every day if they are unhappy they won't be able to do their best and it will lead to problems later on. Personally no i have no regrets about the school i went to. it was some of the happiest times in my life. good luck in making a decision.

I had a bad catholic school experience. My classmates were the worst part of it. They were constantly teasing me and my small group of friends from 2nd grade until 7th grade (when we moved and I got to go to Public school, thank goodness) I know you can get teased at any school, but they were really mean about it. And the teachers didnt do a darn thing about it. The education itself was a bit behind the public school curriculum as well. I really cant give any pros of my catholic school education, unless you live in a city with really bad public schools, that would be the only instance I would even consider sending my kids to catholic school.

I went to a Catholic elementary school...not by choice, but because my parents sent me. I hated it so much. The biggest thing that I don't like about it is the tremendous acceptability of guilt that they instilled in me. I'm now 43 years old and still the most intensely guilty person...guilty to a fault, beating myself up (figuratively) for everything. I didn't send my own two children who are now 16 and 23, and they're so much more mentally stable and stronger than me. I can't think of a con for Catholic elementary school. Not one. I went to a Catholic High school and that was much better. We were more grown up and less easy to brainwash, I guess.

My whole family went to Catholic schools. Our nieces and nephews still do. They are the best schools in our country. The Catholics produce the best citizens in our country. The best and the brightest go to Catholic schools. They have the best teachers. They teach good morals and virtues. Catholic schools are the hope of our world. Without them, the world will be lost. Without Catholic schools people will not know the truth about themselves, the world and God. Catholic schools teach their students to care for the poor, to love their country and the world. Without Catholic schools the children will all die. Prolifers come from Cathollic schools. The devil is trying to kill all our children. Catholics are giving up their lives to save the lives of the children. Catholic schools teach the students to be holy.

I went to Catholic school and so did my children.

In my opinion:

Catholic schools provide a good moral and religious base for children. As a rule they are also safer than public schools.

Educationally, most of them are above average. Although some are exceptionally good and very few are bad. Your school and/or diocese should have some test scores for comparison.

In general, Catholic schools do a good job with average and above average kids.

However the resources of most Catholic schools are limited. If students need extra attention due to being way over or way under average, then their needs may not be properly met.

With love in Christ.

I went to catholic school at the link below. It was child abuse central. I hated it...i still resent it. I would NEVER put my kids through it. I was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder because of it.
