If the bible said:
1 Thessalonians 4:15-18
For this is what we tell YOU by God ’s word, that we the living who survive to the presence of the Lord shall in no way precede those who have fallen asleep [in death]; 16 because the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel’s voice and with God’s trumpet, and those who are dead in union with Christ will rise first. 17 Afterward we the living who are surviving will, together with them, be caught away in clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and thus we shall always be with [the] Lord. 18 Consequently keep comforting one another with these words

I'm not sure what you're trying to say, but if you're saying that Christians don't go immediately to Heaven or hell at their death, then you're right. The Bible never says that people are in Heaven already. At Christ's return, the dead will rise as if from a deep sleep, then they will be judged for either Heaven or hell.

As for why they believe it.....I guess it's just one of those things that originated with the pagan belief systems (which were begun by satan), that stuck with Christians after their conversions way back when.....just like Christmas and Easter.

I suspect that this is just one of those things that has caught on with people. It just seems easier to say...well, he's in heaven now" after someone dies that to acknowledge the fact that in all likelihood he is not. However, I don't have a clue where we actually go when we die. I also believe that heaven awaits those people ONLY when Christ returns for the believers.

Perhaps Jesus has come to those who chose to seek and find him.

The coming of Christ is a spiritual union within each person. It does not necessarily involve a Religious tradition, nor does it necessarily involve death.

Please read I Thessalonians 4:14 one scripture before"For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again even do them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring WITH HIM."..for him to bring those people with him at his coming in the scriptures you referenced then they have to be with him and where would they have to be if they are with him? In heaven..It is at this time those whose spirits that are in Heaven are reunited with their bodies as stated in the scriptures you referenced.
