Its the same with Michael Jordan, you can put up alot of other great players and have an argue with it, it just depends on how the crowd/fans reacted to them. Everyone loved Ali and Jordan....see with some other people in this decade like Kobe alot of people dislike Kobe thats why Kobe Bryant will never be mentioned as the Greatest player of all time, so it mostly depends on how the crowd and fans reacted to you and how you played/fought.

You can argue forever and never get a complete consensus where everyone agrees on who the best ever was. Ali is certianly up there as the best heavyweight, and even that is argued by some Italians who still remember Rocky Marciano.

In terms of record, quality opposition, dominance and pure ring skill, Sugar Ray Robinson is about as good as a human being could have been, and Ray gets the blogbaba's humble vote as the best boxer in history.

Buckeye everybody has an opinion. If they grew up during Sugar Ray's time they will say he is. They will say he had more power in his punch than any middleweight. They give him credit for Ali copying his style. I have seen Ray Robinson fight, I have seen specials about him, I read the book Pound for Pound that his son helped write. Ray Robinson is on every ones top pound for pound list. He fought 200 times and had 108 KO's. Welterweight and middleweight. That equates to a little over 50 percent KO's. Marvin Hagler had a 77 percent KO mark as a full time middleweight and he didn't fight alot of chumps. I think Robinson is one of the greatest fighters of all time but he wasn't the greatest in all aspects of the fight game.. I am not going to say he is number one . I grew up during Ali's time. I know more about him because I saw any fight I could see with him in it. Ali was bigger but just as quick as Robinson but Robinson is called the number one pound for pound. We are talking about boxers here not sluggers. Ali, Robinson,Willie Pep, Harry Greb, Henry Armstrong would be ahead of Marciano and Louis, not in any order.

I'll say Ali was the best. Ali crushed all the formidable foes at a time when boxing saw its greatest boxers. I honestly can't say that Marciano, (who was great) Louis, (who was a national hero during WWII) or Robinson consistently fought and beat the best.

Ali is the best of all time. In his prime he took on the best and bet them. Remember he fought as a heavyweight only because of his size. His style was of a lightweight in that he was fast and could he dance, o ya. He was the most complete boxer in that his combinations of lefts and rights could only be felt, not seen."Sting like a bee". He was golden gloves, Olympian, and world champion. As a boxer he is #1. He took on all and lost to only a hand full. Today's boxers are slower and clumsy as they were before him. "I am the greatest of all time"so true.

Ali retreated in the ring, he was NOT a power puncher. Joe Louis was very accurate, had a power punch, Marciano was better than Ali also.

Are you talking about fighters or boxers. In the heavyweight division as a boxer I would go for Peter Jackson or Jim Corbett. As a fighter, he definitely was and is remembered as great.

Cassius Clay is not the best boxer ever. He is the most popular boxer. There are plenty of other great boxers and legends who were better in the ring.
