I prefer Innova mostly. It has no by-products, no corn, no grains, and is basically all whole ingredients. It's probably one of the best, if not the best food out on the market today.
I also like to feed my dogs Wellness, and Chicken soup for the dog lovers soul. They are good foods as well, but nothing compared to Innova.

The best things that can be fed are Innova Evo or prey model diet (a raw food diet)
the worst
any Purina products (including beneful)
Kibbles N' bits
science diet
and probably some other ones i never heard of
ok just about all kibbles found in pet stores, non holistic vet offices, and chain stores (safeway and such) are crap.
Vets tend to only know what the kibble company teaches em. Wonder why vets only have Iams products and Science diet at their clinics? Well good foods are only found in a feed store and don't have time or the extra money to give out their stuff to clinics. Some vets (mostly holistic vets) carry good brands such as Innova or Eagle Pack.
Seriously the best in chain stores is Natural Balance.
When choosing a food look at the first 5 ingredients. All should be meat. And should be fit for human consumption. Some of the almost great foods (Natural Balance, Chicken Soup for the dog lover's soul) have human grade meats but include oatmeal and potatoes. This is ok. Preservatives are a big no no. Also...the less grain there is....the less poo and smell there will be
Just don't go for cheap.
Mazurai on the other hand...makes wonderful rodent food and is also found in feed stores.....BUT....theyre dog and cat food are NO GOOD

It depends on the size of your dog. Either way your dog food should be high in protein and low in fats. And right now you got to be careful what food you feed your dog especially canned since of the Pet Food Recall.
Either way use the best recommended dog food for the size and age of your dog. if you have a puppy use puppy food if you have a senior dog use a senior dog food...etc... This way the food is tailored to what should be healthy in most cases for your dog. If you are really concerned about the food that you should be feeding your dog, talk to your vet. They will always have good choice though they can be a bit expensive.
Science Diet, Iams, Puriana are all good brands. I have included a website link to help you out a bit more, answer the questions and they can help point you to the right direction.

Okay, I first want to say that Ive had a Great Dane, for 9 1/2 yrs a mix breed for 15 yrs(had to put him down old age) and a doxie(winnie dog) for 12 yrs now. And Ive feed them the same thing all those years, when they all were puppies, the first 18 months, I fed them wet Petadige and dry mixed, and after they reached 18 months I just fed the dry food and I let them free feed. Ive been told by my vets that all my dogs are in great health, and Ive never had any major health problems with any of them. They arent even over weight, because they stop when they are full.
And also what ever you start feeding your pet dont ever change because it makes their stomaches mess up, unless your vet has you change it..
Hope that helps. let me know

I have a 5 month old Mastiff-he is almost 100 lbs. Normal weight gain for them is 2-5 lbs a week. They grow very fast but are very very loving beautiful loyal dogs. I feed my mastiff the BARF diet(BonesAndRawFood)mainly raw chicken & vegetables. Raw chicken bones do not choke the dog as it is crushed to a powder quicker then cooked bones(also has higher calcium content)also as with human food the more food is cooked the more vitamins & nutrients are cooked out of the food. Most dry & canned food is cooked & the nutrients are cooked out. I give him balanced table fats as well & balance this out with Petco's Nutro's Natural Choice dry dog food. I also feed raw & cooked eggs, cheeses, beef, rice, grains......
Mastiffs grow very fast & it can put a strain on their bones & joints not to mention muscles so I look for a food low in protein to allow for slow steady growth.
So it really depends on the breed of your dog & the research you do online as to what to feed that breed. Take all the info offered , use your common sense & makeup your own mind since all the info can be contradictory.
I use to feed my pit bull Purina One. You can usually rate most common dry or canned food by how many BM's they have daily. A good dog food will keep them regular no matter their habits. 2 times a day is a good measure. If you dog eats & then has to go outside for a bm the food is going straight thru them, no nurishment. That is not to say that from time to time they may be irregular or have runny stools or be constipated, but on a regular basis they should be digesting & using the food instead of throwing it off.

I currently feed Nutro Natural Choice but I'm thinking of changing to Canidae. For treats my dogs really like Pet Botanics rolled meat. If I could get it locally I would feed Innova Evo but no where around my small town sells it and last time we bought dog food over the internet the shipping was half as much as the food.

For the most part, I feed my dogs Nature's Recipe dog food and I mix Pet Botanics in with it. I usually buy the Venison and Rice in NR and sometimes get their duck, rabbit and fish variations. I like their food because it is easy for dogs to digest and does not contain common allergens found in a lot of commercial dog food.
I sometimes give them some raw meaty bones.
Here's a site on raw feeding:
http://www.rawdogranch.com
I found this to be a great diet for my dogs but hard to maintain since I have three and I have a small freezer. So the raw is something they get as an occasional treat.
I don't give them rawhides as there are way too many problems associated with that.
I avoid product with toxic preservatives like: "BHA" and/or "BHT" I give them pumpkin pie filling when they get any stomach upset, like after a visit to the dog park, and occasionally they get some table food like cooked meat, some veggies, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese.
For treats they get "Frosty Paws" which is doggie ice cream sold in the human ice cream section of some large supermarkets. It has no real nutritional value but they LOVE it. Comes in four cup-servings to a box.
For treats I look for hard treats for their teeth like hard biscuits and Denta Stix. Also Nylabones for chewing and Kongs for occasional treats.

I feed my dog Diamond Puppy Food. I have a Shih Tzu and she will not eat anything else. She will starve herself first. She is now years old and the vet said as long as shes not overweight because of the extra fat content in the food that puppies need she is perfectly fine. It depends on the individual dog and its preferences.

I feed my dogs natural balance kibble-lite energy as they are older/ tend to get overweight. so far this dog food has been great! it is made in australia and i was quite impressed by the information on the web about this brand. this is their main source of food but i also feed them a home-cooked meal once a day. (i mean, would you want to live on crunchy bits of food alone?) i cook lean pork bits with grated carrots, mix it with some white rice and presto- a gourmet meal for my dogs. i usually make this in big batches (minus the rice since i have rice at my place everyday, i just mix in the rice), then freeze it in small portions that i can pop in the microwave at lunchtime. i use pork because beef gives my 9-year old minipin arthritis, and he is allergic to chicken so i just buy the leanest pork. throughout the rest of the day they nibble on their kibble. don't forget to give them lots of clean water available whenever they want.
hope this helps!
