are Tarkhans turkish?

well my ancestors were "tarkhans." my last name is Virdi, which comes from a Tarkhan clan, anyways i am really confused about my heritage.

Tarkhan, Tarkhaan, or Tarqan (達干) is an ancient Turkic title, apparently related to the title khan.

History

It was used among the Turks, Mongols, and other steppe people, and was a high rank in the army of Tamerlane. Tarkhans commanded military contingents (roughly of regimental size under the Khazar khan) and were, roughly speaking, generals. They could also be assigned as military governors of conquered regions.

* Like many titles, Tarkhan also occurs as a personal name, independent of a person's rank, which makes some historical references confusing. For example, Arab texts refer to a "Tarkhan, king of the Khazars" as reigning in the mid ninth century. Whether this is a confused reference to a military official or the name of an individual Khazar khagan remains unclear.

Tarkhan established the Tarkhan Dynasty ruling parts of modern Pakistan from 1554 to 1591 AD.

First of all, Tarkhan sounds like Tarkan who is a great Turkish singer and Tarkan is a Turkish name. Tarkan also represent an old Turkish warrior, who was also represented in a couple of movies, like :

What I found from Wikipedia.com is that Tarkhans are also Turkic people. So, your heritage is Turkic, I think.

When it comes to your last name Virdi, i don't know, but it means "gave" in old Turkish, which is "verdi" in modern Turkish.

Its not a clan name. It's a title in Oguz Turk's (have 24 clan ). Like army commander or minister.
