Start slow. Job around the block once or twice. You will find that each time you go back out, you'll be able to go further and further.

The answer is not how far, but how long. It's recommended that daily aerobic workouts last 20-60 minutes, so you should probably jog however far you can in that time. If you aren't used to jogging, start at 20 minutes and gradually work your way up. If you're training for a marathon or something, of course, you might want to jog longer. But if it's for exercise, 20-60 minutes is your best bet.

Until you feel like you've really had a good run.. if you are completely out of shape then if wont be far.. and thats okay - you will work up to a longer jog pretty quickly.. good luck!
