I dunno. Depends on the person I guess. I'm 38 and I'm still getting better every year with no signs of stopping. If my Grandmother is any indication I think I'll keep improving till I'm well into my 70's. Of course my family all look alot younger than they are and even the side that drinks and parties alot which is also the side that lived a hard life has a youthful vigor far beyond their years... I am about equal to a very strong 18 year old at this point in my life and I have abused myself alot working in construction since I was 10 ( Dad had a company), and did my party thing for a good 5 years rather 'hardcore'. I know my Grandma complains about the 'Old people' in the Lodge she lives in now and she's 95 and kicking her son's butt in the seniors bowling and the old people she complains about are mostly in their late 60's...

The "prime of your life" is when you are old enough to have fulfilled your parental obiligations, and young enough to enjoy yourself without an afternoon nap. lol
Seriously though, I am 45 now. My kids are in their early 20's. I am old enough to have raised kids to adulthood, and I'm young enough to enjoy life to it's fullest. Plus, the financial picture is better now than 20 years ago. The prime of life, I guess, is just before the "Hill" (50)
What the hey .... ask me again in 20 years. I MAY have a different answer.

Everyone is different. If you take care of yourself...eat healthfully, drink water and stay active, most of your life can be your prime.
