The Sun is a minor factor. Two points.
The data shows it isn't the main thing. The increase in solar radiation is 0.12 watts per meter, nowhere near enough to explain the warming. Man made warming is 1.6 watts per meter, more than ten times as much. Note that solar radiation is measured by many people in many places, the data is very solid.

Second this. Not exactly from the "liberal media".
"While evidence suggests fluctuations in solar activity can affect climate on Earth, and that it has done so in the past, the majority of climate scientists and astrophysicists agree that the sun is not to blame for the current and historically sudden uptick in global temperatures on Earth, which seems to be mostly a mess created by our own species."

These geologic interglacial warming periods have happened before in earth's history and not unexpectedly seem to be happening again. You can probably plan for a warmer future for some time if not for yourself, successive later generations.
This one began when the last little ice age ended, say about 1850 or into the US Civil War times. Photographic records and actual clothing exist so you can see that humans began wearing less and less clothing summers.
What can you do? Caulk all your window frames and doorways for greater comfort and lower energy usage. Upgrade heating and cooling equipment. I'm sure you can think of more.

Of course global warming is real and there is nothing we can do to stop it. We've been through several cycles of glaciation and subsequent warming and melting of the glaciers in the last few million years (about every 40,000 to 100,000 years, driven by Earth's orbital cycles). The last ice age ended about 10,000 years ago so we are in the early inter-glacial phase now (recently the frequency of glaciation has been closer to 100,000 yrs). Significant polar ice and glaciers remain and; in fact, sea-level has been significantly higher during past interglacials than it is currently. There are ancient beach ridges formed during these high sea-levels in places like Florida that are many miles inland from the current coast line. So, further warming and melting is definitely expected whether we contribute to it or not. Of course, our contributions of greenhouse gases may speed things up a little bit, that remains to be seen.
In my opinion we should do something to reduce our emission of these gases and pollutants anyway. I simply don't like having to breathe the polluted air and don't want to leave a legacy of toxic air for my children and grandchildren to have to breathe someday. Unfortunately, most of the time when people say "we need to do something to stop this", they don't really mean we. We includes I and most of us really mean YOU need to do something while I simply continue to drive my SUV and run my AC 24/7, etc. Doing something about it will be painful and expensive. We have the technological know-how to switch to alternative fuel sources and install scrubbers and things on power plants, etc right now but we don't have the infrastructure in place now to implement it immediately. It will take money and lots of it to put it there. While we all say we need to fix this problem right now, how many of us are actually willing to say "I'm willing to pay 5 or 6 bucks a gallon for gas or have my electric bill double or have my taxes go way up in order to help pay for the switch over and I will stop driving as much or I'll sell my SUV and get a Smart Car right now"? Yeah, we need to do something but we also need to put our money where our mouths are if we really want it to happen.

I believe it is real.
Why? Because that is what the science indicates.
Simple as that.
Edit: By the way, anyone who uses George Taylor and Timothy Ball as experts to back up their claims should be dismissed as a crackpot.
Do a bit of research on both of these fellows and you'll see what I mean.
Also, the 'Global Warming Swindle" documentary has been thoroughly debunked.
You can check out realclimate's response to it here:

On a similar note, one of the scientists involved in the show has recently sent a letter stating that he was deceived as to the nature of the show, and is now threatening legal action if the show's producers do not remove him from it entirely. You can check that out here:

ccguy's answer is spot-on. You are asking the wrong question. Don't ask about global warming being real, ask Is climate change human-induced? Every day more evidence comes in that points not at CO2, which has a small role to play (and even smaller from a human perspective, given that most CO2 is not human-produced). The most likely explanation is that climate change is driven by the sun, which happens to be the entire source of the earth's surface heat.

Before you buy into man made global warming, please watch this documentary!
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=9005566792811497638&q=global+warming+swindell&hl=en
I hope you're not falling for all the media and political hype about global warming. Most of this could be due to increased solar activity. There are a lot of hypocrites pushing this notion. Just look at Al Gore, inventor of the internet & man made global warming. The hypocrite spends $1,200 per month on his 10,000 square foot home. The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.
While many are asked to live "green" lifestyles, he goes through hundreds of gallons of fossil fuels with cars, toys, houses, planes, you name it. He doesn't even try to cut down even a little bit........ What a hypocrite!
Ask Al why the ice on Mars is also melting...... Could it be increased solar activity Al? Or are there Martians producing green house emissions on Mars? (see link below)
Before you go to the bank with this whole man made Global warming know that the jury is still out about climate change and man's role if there is one, but one thing we do know for certain is that there are political agendas to promote socialistic politics. Even if man was partially responsible, if humans changed entirely, there would only be a slight difference of a degree or two in temperature change. I think we should get off fossil fuels because it makes us dependent upon unstable nations for our energy supply, not because of global warming.
Top scientists have refuted man's affect on the climate such as Astrophysicist Nir Shariv who stated, "Solar activity can explain a large part of the 20th-century global warming. Particularly because of the evidence that has been accumulating over the past decade of the strong relationship that cosmic-rays have on our atmosphere."
"The sun's strong role indicates that greenhouse gases can't have much of an influence on the climate."
Even doubling the amount of CO2 by 2100, for example, "will not dramatically increase the global temperature."
Oregon state climatologist, George Taylor said that "the global warming seen in the past century is caused largely by natural events, including cyclical climate patterns and solar fluctuations linked with cosmic rays and changes in cloud cover." Mr Taylor was recently fired by the Oregon governor for his "scientific" views.
I don't think there is a debate about whether global warming is occurring, but the idea that it is man made is a myth. Remember, the UN that came out with a recent report about climate change is a political entity that has done many things to prove it is not a credible, un-biased source. A recent example is the oil for food scandal that diverted millions of dollars to UN members and others. Also, even if there was man made climate change, China (the world's second-largest greenhouse gas emitter) and India are not going to embrace fossil fuel consumption.
Additionally, many scientists disagree about climate change and 17,000 signed a petition against the Kyoto treaty. Unfortunately, the sales focussed media who know little about this, spin it to suit their own opinions. So, its highly debatable whether humans are influencing global warming. Another thing to consider is that every 11,500 years, the earth goes through a major extinction with a global warming and cooling phase (ice age.) Paleontologists are able to track this through soil samples. We may actually be headed into an ice age because we are coming to the tail end of the current cycle. The problem is that the media and politicians get focussed on a piece of the puzzle and try to simplify this issue. Don't be fooled. There is probably nothing humans can do. Even if we could, there is no way you can control China who is becoming a major world polluter. Humans will need to adapt to climate change. Where I live there are small changes in our weather pattern, but nothing major. A lot of the media is hype to sell newspapers. The only caution is that some past climate changes have been more radical, swinging wildly from hot to cold. Others have brought on instant and severe cold conditions. I know the area that I live used to be buried in hundreds on feet of ice, but temperatures are mild today... Humans will just need to wait and see what mother nature brings and adapt as necessary.
And as for Al, I think his mouth and utility bills are a main cause of green house emmisions....
