I have a complimentary companion ticket that was given to me when I signed up for my motorclub. It expires soon and I just wanted to know what the real deal is with this sort of thing. Is the second persons ticket really free? Or is it just added into the first ticket b/c there is a fare table that came with it...you know one of those Travel between Zone A and Zone C is x-amount and so on. This would save me a lot of money on my trip to ABQ this summer but I am kind of leary>HELP! Thanks!...Anyone who works in the travel industry...i.e.: travel agents. airline salespeople, and whatnot PLEASE advise.

well it sounds like a companion pass, which is used only standby at discount rates, not full fare,, but has restrictions, I am unsure if the second person is free.. As if I flew on my roommates companion passes,, she pays a fee for each segment(stop), I stop or pass thru to my destination...
Does your coupon have any info on it??? Maybe follow up with the motorclub,as they might also book your travel and will be able to tell you?

The second person's ticket is usually free but ONLY the fare component. You might still be required to pay the taxes and airport fees etc. Also check whether the free ticket is valid for travel without what is called "blackout periods" during high seasons and that it is not "Subject to Load" - which means your companion gets a seat only if there is one available on the flight and there are no full-fare paying passengers to claim it.
