My husband and I(both working, own a house) live in the state of CA. Are there any tax breaks for having a child?

You get a dependency exemption for each child. Exemptions reduce your taxable income by $3,300 (for 2006).

Depending upon your income, you may or may not be eligible for the EITC. Most two-earner homeowner couples in CA would make too much money to qualify.

You also may qualify for the Child Tax Credit, which is worth up to $1,000.

NO ... California does not offer the Earned Income Credit on the State Tax Return ... but for the Federal Tax Return it should.
