As a Chinese that live in Beijing, I agree with you 100%. All those that are saying 'Tibet was not a part of China' should read REAL history books, not just Tibetan separatism terrorists propaganda.
In the Chinese history test books it said that we control Tibet since Tang Dynasty. Be I think think that the real military control was at the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368) and no one can say that this never happened. But the separatist claims that it was the Mongols that controlled Tibet, not the Chinese. But the Mongols only won the battle on the frontlines but the Chinese won the battle of ideas. Over the years after the Mongols match into China, the Chinese won the war. But the Chinese won not by weapons but by their culture. The Mongols won and killed and conquered on horseback, but they couldn’t rule lands and nations simply by that. Over the years China’s culture conquered the Mongols. China’s food, drink, clothing, lifestyle, philosophies and religious won the minds of the Mongols. So history is calling the Yang Dynasty a Chinese Dynasty.
There is one thing that no one could disagree with . The Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) had full military control over Tibet. They even forced the Tibetans to sign a treaty known as the 29 regulations, Here are some of the more important ones:
(1) Chinese officials would accept that the Dalai Lama is the living Buddha.
(2) Chinese officials would control the import and export of Tibet.
(3) Chinese officials would inspect the money making of Tibet.
(4) Chinese government would have control over the Tibetan army.
(5) Before the Dalai Lama can make any decision he much ask the Chinese first.
(6) Chinese officials would decide the amount of tax.
(7) Chinese officials would decide who could be the high templar of local temples.
(8) Chinese officials would control the traffic and communication of Tibet.
If a nation could have so much control over another, it is unquestionable that it has the sovereign right of the other. The Tibet separatists believe that since the Chinese forced Tibet to sign this treaty. It means nothing. I must said that it is rubbush. We live in a world were might makes right, It doesn’t matter that someone was forced to some thing because he is not strong enough. There are lots of treaties worldwide that were signed because one side forced the other. Even the Declaration of Independence of America was sign because the colonist won the war. Can the English one-day order America to rejoin them because they were forced to sign the Declaration?
In some other similar cases like this, The US didn’t control Hawaii for a long time, but in just a few decades they have the sovereign right of Hawaii and no one talks about it anymore. So what is the big different between China and America? Why are there so many problem about China and Tibet and none about US and Hawaii.
And thoses that are saying China is only taking away resources from Tibet should do some real research first. China is put LOTS and LOTS of money on the development of Tibet. Here are some of the more important devolopments:
(1) The Lhasa Hotel
(2) The Tibet history museum
(3) The Tibet culture exchange center
(4) The Tibetan railway
(5) The Lhasa highway
(6) The Tibetan medicine research center
......ect.
Do they have any idea how much money thoses things cost? Of course the separatist can say that thoses building will 'destroy the tradition of the Tibetan people'. But the so-called 'tradition' is nothing but a fundamentalist police state with no devolopments at all. Do they want the wonderful Tibetan people to stay in the dark ages?
Thankyou for thoses that read the entire thing. I know it is long but I wanted to say this for a long time.

There's a big difference. The vast vast majority of the Natives in North America were wiped out by disease not war. Diseases that were considered inconveniences to the Europeans were deadly to the natives. It is believed that many in southern Mexico felt the foreigners gods must have been stronger because they weren't dying from disease as well.
And when you speak of natives in America, you seem to be implying they were one people who were savagely overthrown. America was covered by hundreds if not thousands of different nomadic tribes. The only area where civilization (i.e. building cities) was in the SW US and maybe some villlages on the coast and farther south.
Tibet, on the other hand, had a single people, religion, form of government and were killed on purpose. The Chinese went there, arrested leaders, burned down temples, and outlawed local culture for years.
China hasn't really controlled Tibet since the 13th century. That's only when they realized it was really there. Tibet was much stronger then and China couldn't mess with it. China demanded Tibet pay homage and Tibet told them to go screw themselves. China wasn't strong enough to attack, so they claimed it on paper, but never bothered to try and control it. China only really came in control of Tibet in the 1950's.
They're two very different senerios

Americans, Canadians, Australians, etc. do not have any lessons to give to China or for that matter to other former "colonial" empires like France, England, Spain, etc.. These "new world" nations were built on the destruction of First Nations. In North America for example, the extermination of millions of "Indians" is the greatest genocide in the history of the world.

Americans, by and large, admit that what we did to the First Nations was, and continues to be, a national embarrassment. It took us decades to recognize our own cultural chauvinism and come to terms with the depth of our own crimes. When we see China going down the same path that we ourselves went down, how could we not speak up? Our only excuse was our own ignorance. Should we not share that shamefully-acquired wisdom with the Chinese? Or should we wait for China to recognize the depths of her crimes only after Tibetan civilization is wiped out, when it's too late to do anything about it?
