I am in a secular college and this is what the required textbook says about Christianity. I'm particularly curious to see what Atheists think of this.....

"Christianity is basically a historical religion. That is to say, it is founded not on abstract principles but in concrete events, actual historical happenings"

Christianity is a historical religion. Jesus was an actual historical personage. He performed miracles and was raised from the dead. Christianity is founded on Jesus' earthly life.

*Some* of the things DID happen...the exodus of the jews from Egypt is a prime example. BUT...there is NO historical evidence of ANY kind for the supposed miracles that the bible speaks of. There is also no proof that god made man from dust and a woman from man's rib. There is also NO historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus. Do you really think he ascended into the heavens? That takes a stretch of imagination.

I find it excruciatingly ridiculous! There is no historical evidence for most of the events in the Bible. There are some, but very few and far between. Who wrote the book? Jerry Falwell?

It's laughable.

But that is exactly why Christianity is so widespread, because the Bible has been passed off as a factual historical text.

Should be changed to: Christianity is basically a pseudo-historical religion.
