I'm 13, and a girl in the 7th grade. I just realized that I'm a "cutter" in a sort of way. I don't really cut myself, because I don't like sharp things. I really just like to bruise myself, and see my self bleed. (Yes, I know i'm really weird, and probably have mental issues.)
I don't want to tell anyone, because they'll think i'm crazy, and will tell my mom. If my mom finds out, she'll think I have even bigger problems because she is paranoid about me being scytzo becuase we have a family history of it.
How can I stop hurting myself?

I starting cutting in the seventh grade too. I didn't stop until 11th. It can become addicting. You will feel like it is the only thing that can make you feel better. You have to talk to someone. The longer you keep it hidden the harder it will be for you when someone does find out. Focus on one thing at a time. You can always be tested and prove you are not schizophrenic. The cutting needs to be exposed. Please tell someone.

Cutting is very serious stuff. You are not "weird" or "crazy". I would guess you are in pain about something.
You are worth getting some help. I guess even if your mom does freak out, cause in the end you will get the help you need.
This is not really something you can quit on your own.
To help you understand what may be going on, here is a marvelous website:

Sad to say, that as you are 13, most states don't provide you the confidentiality of seeing a counselor without some form of parental consent.
Even if it does mean that your mother finds out, once you can get to a good theapist or counselor, you can get the guidance you need to help you deal with your pain in a better and less riskier way.

The best way to get help is tell a friend or a adult. The best choice would be adult. They will be able to help you. Maybe they will give you the number of a counselor you can talk to about why you cut. Or maybe you can just talk to your school counselor if you have one. Once you find out why you cut yourself and why you are unhappy then you have to change that behavior so you can be happy again. Good luck. Hope that you get the help you need.

Believe it or not, there are many cutters. The only way to help yourself is to go to the mental health facility. You must do everything they tell you to do and take the medications given to you and do not stop taking meds unless the doctor tells you to stop. You hurt yourself probably because you do not know how to handle certain situations. If you are afraid to talk to your parents or relatives about your problem, talk to anyone who you are close to and ask them for help. Your best bet would be to call the mental health facility and tell them what you are doing. They will help you, please call today.

Try putting a rubber band around your wrist (for a short time; a few minutes, maximum); extend & release. Try the following: www.selfharm.org.uk & http://www.focusas.com/selfinjury.html & http://www.palace.net/~llama/psych/injury.html (selfinjury.html) Join MySpace (free) at www.myspace.com Click on "groups" in an upper toolbar, select "other" and enter "self harm" and choose one, maybe changing later, possibly exchanging IM or email addresses. Also Yahoo; groups & Google; groups.

you have to bite the bullet and tell you parents about this. there is medicine that can help with this behavior. this is only serious if it goes untreated and neglected. tell your mother. besides, you'd be popular at school and could make fun of yourself.

You need to tell an adult you trust. Do you have a favorite teacher, or do you like the guidance counselor or one of the principals? It's very important.

Please talk to your mother, she probably just wants to help you deal with what is bothering you. Trust me I know my son of 15 is cutting himself and won't talk to me about it. He is seeing psychiatrists but I can't understand why he wants to hurt himself. Life gets better as you get older and please don't hurt yourself, one day you will be glad you stopped! I believe that I am going through this for a reason and if I could help one kid even if it isn't my son I would feel like there was a reason for this. I went through Leukemia with my daughter, that was nothing compared to what I am feeling with my son cutting himself, it is killing me. If he would talk to me instead of hiding in his room and hurting himself life would be better for both of us Talk to your Mom!
