Alright, I'm on a quest for some serious, rugged, knee high, waterproof boots. I just got a job in Hawaii, which will have tough terrain due to past lava flows and a wet/hot climate. I'm also going to have to do a lot of hiking in these boots. Anyone know of any comfortable and not disgustingly expensive boots that would work for me?

I would agree with the other two posts
1. Goretex offers water proof socks that will keep your feet dry if you know you will get water above the top of the boot
2. Also, since the climate is such that you won't worry about being a cold weather injury the jungle boot will allow water to escape through the screens built on the sides of the boots. You can combine the two but the absolute worst is letting water in and not getting it out.

Go with the Jungle Boot and look at the Goretex socks to keep you from getting trench foot by being wet all the time (change your socks periodically and dry your feet)

You shouldn't need waterproof boots in Hawaii. They would make your feet sweat . I cave in steel toed work boots in water 58 degrees up to my waste for up to 12 hr. a day. The thing is to take care of your boots don't just throw them on the porch and expect them to last. I would get a boot with as much (TREAD) on the bottom as possible. For those times you are crossing lava Fields. Try a Army surplus for jungle boots.
Check out the local Grotto And go see some lava tubs.
